Noh Mask Sculptor Roger Voltz Reflecting on His Encounter with Noh Masks
Since coming to Japan, I’ve immersed myself in the study of martial arts, ancient martial arts, and traditional Japanese culture. Along the way, I collected quite a number of Japanese antiques and fine art pieces. However, my most profound encounter was with the Noh mask.
During my first ten years in Japan, I dedicated myself to martial arts training.
Then, one day, a friend invited me to Miho no Matsubara in Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka City, for a short break.
The view of Suruga Bay, with Mount Fuji in the background, immediately captured my heart.
I was struck by the beauty of the place and felt completely refreshed.
Just as I was about to leave, a stone monument caught my attention, standing quietly among the pines.
