[15:55] Xi Jinping has a need to restore confidence in his leadership. So they really did want him (=Blinken) to come. So this (= 偵察気球の件) is very self-defeating. [* self-defeating = acting to defeat its own purpose 自滅的な]

[16:18] I think that Xi probably has approved this program of surveillance balloons, but I really doubt that he approved this particularly brazen effort to transverse [* = traverse 横切る、横断する ] the entire continental United States just a few days before Blinken was about to come.

[17:49] So, I mean, some people believe that there may be elements within the Chinese PLA [* = People’s Liberation Army 人民解放軍] who were trying to subvert the diplomacy.

[19:31] I'm not sure. I'm pretty agnostic on that question. [* be agnostic on = Having no firmly held opinions on an issue. …

[21:05] The Family and Medical Leave Act [* = 育児介護休業法。 was hailed as revolutionary for its time when President Bill Clinton signed it into law in 1993.

[23:32] The other thing that we know, of the 44 percent of workers who aren't covered by the FMLA, that workers of color are disproportionately in that number, 48 percent of Latinx [* = A Latin person (of any gender); a Latino or Latina. ] workers, 47 percent of Asian workers, 43 percent of Black workers.

[33:11] I don't mean to date you, but you have been working in Afghanistan for four decades. [* to date something/someone = To determine the age of something or someone.

[38:10] It's been two years since the Biden administration took on the task of reconnecting children with their families after they were split up at the Southern border under the Trump administration's zero tolerance policy. [* zero tolerance = The strict policy of enforcing all the laws of a state, or the rules of an institution, and allowing no toleration or compromise even for first-time offenders or petty violations.

[46:42] And so, to promote something like Beyonce breaking records, Beyonce getting feted [* to fete = to celebrate] as what is known as the biggest artist across not one, but arguably two generations is a conversation that continues to enmesh itself (=the Grammys) in the zeitgeist. [* zeitgeist = The spirit of the age; the taste, outlook, and spirit characteristic of a period.

[47:19] And part of that is due to the fact that Beyonce has expressed a desire to not really participate in the rigmarole that is expected of the academy. [* rigmarole = A long and complicated procedure that seems tiresome or pointless.

[53:24] Now I have gotten two bachelor's degrees, actually, and successfully defended my thesis just last month.
