Reading Notebook (Day 173) Here is another book today on English, which is the reading theme for this month.
*Why do I want to improve my English? For the background to this, please see here: 🙇♂️
The author, William, taught at Yale University as Director of Business School Communication and was introduced as someone with a reputation for English communication.
The first edition was published 13 years ago in 2011, but I am sure the phrases are not that old and I will try to refer to it. (Finally, I will check the English phrases I'm interested in on ChatGPT to see if they aren't out of date.)
So the book here consists of the following five chapters.
Today was about responses to "How are you?" and the inevitable Dear and Sincerely initial and concluding words in English emails.
As a reminder for myself, I have made a list so as not to leave out any of the content of this book, which might be difficult to read for you...
As for the concluding words, I thought it would suit my personality to customise them freely according to the situation.
First of all, I decide in advance what I will say if I am in doubt, starting with my response to 'How are you?', which is the first greeting from the teacher in the online lesson, so that I do not feel intimidated if I am suddenly and unexpectedly asked.
For now, I think "Pretty good, thanks!" seems good enough to use in everyday life without hesitation.
