HÉLÈNE HAGOROMO Hélène looking at her Hagoromo mask. A photo that inspired the relief of the monument.
At Miho no Matsubara, near the city of Shimizu, 180 kilometers west of Tokyo, at the end of the grand avenue leading from the shrine, where the long sandy beach curves toward Mount Fuji, majestically standing beyond Suruga Bay, facing the Pacific Ocean in the wind of its waves, the legendary pine tree of Hagoromo has stood for an immemorial time.
And near it, a standing stone frames a bronze relief of a young woman looking at a mask, commemorating the memory of Hélène Georg, a French artist who died in Paris on July 11, 1951, at the age of 35.
