言葉遊びのある日本語を翻訳させてみたら...

　言葉遊びをAIに翻訳させたらどうなるか？
　今週の毎週ショートショートnote(略して『毎ショ』)のお題は
「人生は洗濯の連続」。

　私は「洗濯」と「選択」という、同じ「せんたく」という読み方の言葉を使って、お題の作品を書きました。

　「洗濯」も「選択」も、日本語では同じ発音だけれども、こういう言葉遊びをAIがどう英訳するのか？、ということに興味がありました。

　今回、note AI アシストを使って、私の書いたショートショートを英語に翻訳させてみました。

　日本語を入力するや否や、すぐに英語に翻訳してしまうAIは、やはりスゴい。
　
　しかし、うまく翻訳しているけれども、やはりおかしいところはおかしい。
　ダジャレ(掛詞)として使った「洗濯」と「選択」という言葉の翻訳には、少し不満が残ります。

　以下では、

①私が日本語で書いたショートショート、

③私自身による英語訳、

という順番に載せます。

「人生はセンタクの連続なり」。
　誰が言ったか知らないが、言われてみれば確かに聞こえるスカイ・イヤーの時間がやって参りました。お相手はこの方です😎。

　毎週金曜日25時20分。テレビ夕陽🌆。

　なんとなくつけたテレビから聞こえてくる定番の言葉。別にチャンネルを合わせようと思って見るわけじゃない。
　しかし、この時間帯には他に面白い番組があるわけじゃないから、自然とテレビ夕陽🌆を見ることになる。

　見れば思わず笑ってしまうこともあるが、たいして面白くもないときもある。
　なのに気がつけば、小学生の頃からずっと見ている。たしか僕の記憶では、他局(テレビ∞)だが、お昼の長寿番組「スマイル☺️してもよろしいか？」と、同年同月から始まった番組だ。

　それにしても…ふと思う。「人生はセンタクの連続なり」の「センタク」ってなんなのだろうと。
　普通に聞けば「選択」という言葉を想起するが、「洗濯」だとしたら？

　外干しか？　
　それとも中干しか？

　たしかに今までの人生は、毎日「洗濯」の連続だった。

　生きるために服を着るのか？
　それとも服を着るために生きるのか？

　けっこう深い問いなのではないだろうか。
　生きるために衣食住があるのか？
　それとも衣食住のために生きているのか？　　

　僕は気楽に見られるはずの番組を考え事をしながら見てしまった。
　それにしても、日本語の「愛しても」が、外国人には「I shit more💩」に聞こえるとは❗
　やっぱりスカイ・イヤーは楽しい時間だった。

(2) note AI アシストによる翻訳

　"Life is a series of choices." I don't know who said it, but once you hear it, it does sound accurate. The time of Sky Year has come. The person who will be with us is this one😎.

　Every Friday at 25:20, on TV Yuuhi🌆.
The familiar words that can be heard from the TV that I turned on by chance. I don't really intend to watch it by tuning in to a specific channel. But since there aren't any other interesting shows at this time slot, I naturally end up watching TV Yuuhi🌆.

　Sometimes I find myself laughing when I watch it, but there are also times when it's not that interesting. Yet, I realize that I've been watching it since I was a elementary school student. According to my memory, it was on another channel (TV ∞), but it was a long-running daytime show called "Can I Smile☺️?"

　By the way... I suddenly wonder, what is "sentaku" in the phrase "Life is a series of choices"? If you ask normally, it brings to mind the word "selection", but what if it's "laundry"?

　Outdoor drying?
　Or indoor drying?
　Certainly, my life so far has been a series of "laundry" every day.

　Do we wear clothes to live?
　Or do we live to wear clothes?

　It's quite a profound question, isn't it? Do we have the necessities of life (clothing, food, and shelter) to live? Or do we live for the sake of the necessities of life?

　I found myself watching a show that should be easygoing while pondering about these things. And yet, Japanese phrase "aishitemo" sounds like "I shit more💩" to foreigners❗ Sky Year was definitely a fun time after all.　

(3) 私自身による英訳

　I don't know who started this phrase, but whenever I hear it, it seems to me to have a grain of truth.
　As usual, this is my partner, Mr Anzai. Hello, Anzai-san.　

　It is Friday today. It is 25:20.
I am watching "the" TV program broadcast by Terebi Yuuhi🌇.

　I turned on TV, and I tuned it to Channel 10. That is a natural course of my habit.
I have no strong desire to watch the program, but there is no alternative as there are any interesting programs at around 25:20 on Friday. So I always feel inclined to watch it without deeply thinking about which program I should watch.

　There were times when I burst out laughing in spite of myself while I was watching it. But there were also times when I couldn't laugh at all.

　In retrospect, regardless of whether or not it was funny, I have watched Tamori Club (for the sophisticated people) since I was mere an elementary school pupil.

　To the best of my knowledge, Tamori Club began at the same month with Waratte-iitomo (uki-uki watching) broadcast by Fuji Television. Both Tamori Club and Warette-iitomo have been popular for a long time.
　
　By the way, come to think of it, what is the meaning of "Sentaku" in the phrase "Life is a series of Sentaku."

　When I hear the Japanese word "Sentaku," I am often reminded of "Sentaku" meaning "Choice(選択)." But what if "Sentaku" meaning "Laundry(洗濯)."

　Where should I dry my laundry, in the room or outside?

　Yes, I have lived a life for the sake of washing and washing my clothes each and every day.

　Clothing for the sake of living a life.
　Or living a life for sake of clothing.
　Which is which ?
　That is the question… …
　That is a profound philosophical question.

　I should have been feeling relaxed, but I devoted myself to deliberate the question concerning "Sentaku(洗濯)" and "Sentaku(選択)."
　But that's no matter after all.
　The Japanese phrase "Aishitemo"(愛しても) is similar to the English phrase "I shit more" in sound.

　Sky-Ear-Hour ("Sora-Mimi-Hour"[空耳アワー]) is extremely enjoyable.
