For the last two weeks, I had been studying the factorisation of quadratics and the completion of the square. I enjoyed working on them. But they were so difficult that I needed time to follow them and solve the tests. I had new things to learn which had been unfamiliar to me. One of them is the completion of the square. I was amazed to see it help sketch the graph.

I also learnt the following phrases, terms and words:
Someone's cup of tea: a kind of thing he or she likes;
To get the hang of: to learn how to do something;
Significant figures: the numbers used to write a number to be as accurate as needed;
Take heed of: to pay attention to something;
Pitfall: a likely mistake or problem in a situation; and
Get to grips with, to make an effort to understand and deal with a problem or situation.

　この2週間、方程式の因数分解と平方完成を勉強していました。勉強するのは楽しかったのですが、難しすぎて理解し、問題を解くのに時間がかかりました。中でも、平方完成が特に難しかったです。平方完成からグラフが描けることを知り、驚きでした。

　また、以下の熟語、用語や単語を学びました。

Significant figures: 有効数字
Take heed of: 注意する
Pitfall: 落とし穴
Get to grips with: 真剣に取り組む
