感想

いつ犯人が分かるの⁉とやきもきしながら読み進めてしまいました。最近見ているドラマが犯人を最初から提示しているスタイルが多いからでしょうか…

スコットランドヤードの警部たちが丹念に、泥臭く捜査していく様子は今と打って変わって‘足’が勝負！歩き回って聞き込みを重ねてようやく手掛かりをつかんでいく様は、現代の捜査とギャップが大きいですが、この地道な積み重ねがあって今の科学捜査も生きてくるというもの。

犯人にたどり着くまでに何度もロンドンの霧の中の犯行シーンが回想されますが、その時の怪しい人物のバックグラウンドによって霧のカラーが変わるような、濃密で重苦しい、でも毎回ハラハラさせられてしまいました。

My thought about this book

The book I’ll introduce you today is "Death's Checkmate" by E.C.R. Lorac.

These day’s weather in my town is not likely in rainy season because one day it’s bright sunny but other day turns out heavy rain. I have many times of being caught in the rain but I’ve never experienced that walking in deep fog. This book made me think about, what will happen if I was in the thick foggy night.

I was so impatient to know who the murderer is. And I can’t stop my hand turning pages. Maybe my inpatient comes from the style of TV shows: showing the murderer first.

Comparing to now days detective works, characters of Scotland Yard use only their ‘foots’. There is not much scientific handy gadgets like smart phones, so they walk, keep communicate with neighbors, and at last, get a evidence. The old style made the foundation of now days detective works!

Before the reach of true murderer, there are a lot of deep foggy night scenes. Every scene has different impression due to the background of suspects. Those are so much exciting.

Who wants foggy London mystery, I recommend this book.
