Mark Manders @Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo
The exhibition of Dutch contemporary artist Mark Manders “The Absence of Mark Manders” are held at MOT.
The only thing I can say is “AMAZING”. Literally. Once you enter the exhibition room, you are surrounded by the world of Mark Manders and you’ll know what I mean.
Honestly, it’s one of the best artworks I’ve ever seen in my life.
Let me show you some photos from the exhibition:
“Mind Study”
One of his emphasizes on his work is “the silence” - the silence of unmovable objects that remains its shape no matter how many decades it takes. Another key word is “relationship in between objects” - you’ll see the intangible interaction and nonverbal communications among different materials he uses in his works.
“Short Sad Thoughts”
“Composition with Four Yellow Verticals”
“Anthropological Trophy”
And there’s many more works that I loved:
- the one with many tea bags
- his doodle drawing
- layout of a room which he created with pencils and record tapes.
- a room with a painting of failing dictionary and soft ground apparently with a 3-birds-painting hidden beneath it
I watched his videos about this exhibition and I was especially attracted when he said that he designed this exhibition as if he abandoned this place after created art piece, and that’s why it’s titled “absence of Mark Manders”.
I love the moments and air his silent and still works generate - there’s indescribable beauty lies in it. And I feel these are the aesthetics that I really value.
EXHIBITION TILL 22ND JUNE @MOT. *PREBOOKING REQUIRED!
