雀として生まれてやがて鳩になり鳩から鴨に、鴨から駝鳥に　　　　　　　　　
     Born as a sparrow,
     Growing into a dove, a duck,
     Finally an ostrich

月ほどに大きなものもこぶしほどに小さなものもいる「宇宙クラゲ」　　　　　
     “Space jellyfish”
     Some as huge as the moon, others
     As small as a fist

建物も家具も食器も倍サイズの住まいに普通サイズの住人　　　　　　　　　　　
     The house, furniture and
     Tableware are a double size
     But the dwellers are not

眉たちが毛虫のように這い回る　時々鼻や耳にもぐり込む　　　　　　　　　　　     My eyebrows squiggle
     Like caterpillars, and creep
     Into my nose and ears

一日に一個根元にひまわりが卵を産むのを集めて回る　　　　　　　　　　　　　
     Sunflowers lay an egg
     A day at the root. We collect
     Them daily in the field

気配だけの人々がいる　濃厚に気配はするが姿は見えない　　　　　　　　　　　
     However strongly
     We sense their presence, we see
     No figures of them

そびえ立つ巨大音叉の林がある　小さな音叉の草原もある　　　　　　　　　　　
     A forest of huge
     Towering tuning forks: A grass
     Field of soft tuning forks

ずたずたにされてもやがてよみがえるがずたずたにされる度に苦しむ　　　　　
     Each time I am torn
     To pieces, I revive. But
     Each time I suffer

飛行するブロッコリーに頭突きされ自分が誰だか分からなくなった　　　　　　
     Given a head butt
     By a flying broccoli, I’ve
     Forgotten who I am

後ろから声をかけるとゆっくりと花をこっちへ向けるひまわり　　　　　　　　　
      If you speak to them
      From behind, sunflowers
     Slowly turn around

赤く光る輪が空中にトンネルのようにたくさん連なっている　　　　　　　　　　
     Countless glowing
     Red rings are strung in the air
     Like a tunnel

その人は水に浸かると水を吸い十倍くらいの大きさになる　　　　　　　　　　　
     When soaked, the person
     Becomes ten times larger,
     Absorbing water

内臓の内部のように濡れている街でだんだん溶かされていく 
     I’m being dissolved
     In a town which is wet
     Like the internals

死んだ後は生まれる前と同じだと思うが確かというわけではない　　　　　　　　
     “After-death” may be
     The same as “before-birth,” but
     We cannot be sure

人々がレモンの形の塊になってあちこちに転がっている　　　　　　　　　　　　
     Having turned into
     Lemon-shaped lumps, people lie
     Rolling here and there

頂点を接して別のピラミッドが逆さまになって乗っかっている　　　　　　　　　
     On a pyramid is
     Another pyramid, being
     Inverted, upside-down

胃のようにむくむく動くサツマイモ　心臓のように動くジャガイモ　　　　　　　
     A potato pumping
     Like a heart. A sweet potato 
     Writhing like a stomach

人々の頭の上にAの字が立っていて「エイ」と鳴き交わしている　　　　　　　
     “A”s are standing
     On humans’ head and crow
     “Ei,” to each other

花たちが「はい」か「いいえ」の質問に縦横に花を振って答える　　　　　　　　
     Nodding or shaking
     Themselves, flowers answer
     To yes-no questions

手のひらに十匹くらい乗せられるミニ猫たちを二十匹運ぶ　　　　　　　　　　　
     Ten miniature cats
     Can ride on a palm. So I can
     Carry twenty of them

三日月に息を吹き込みふくらませ半月に、やがて満月にする　　　　　　　　　　
     With your breath, inflate
     The crescent into a half-moon,
     Then into a full moon

遠くから虹が飛来し人間をさっとつかんで飛び去ってしまう　　 
     Suddenly, the rainbow
     Came flying from the distance, and
     Snatched away a human

その人には鍵穴があり鍵を刺し回すと秘密をしゃべり始める　　　　　　　　　　
     The man has a keyhole.
     When you turn a fit key in it,
     He blabs out a secret

人間の頭にとまりその人の思考を読もうとしている蝶たち　　　　　　　　　　　
     Settling on a human’s
     Head, butterflies try to read
     What the human thinks

数日間いななくことしかできなくなるイナナキエンザが毎年はやる*　　　　　　
     “Neighfluenza” afflicts
I     Its patients with persistent neighs
      For several days*

     *「ニャアフルエンザ」「ワンフルエンザ」というのもあるらしいです。
     *There are also “mewfluenza,” “barkfulenza,” I hear.

一斉に全国民が幼児になり世界中から支援がされる　　　　　　　　　　　　　　
     The whole nation became
     Infants all at once. The whole world
     Aided the helpless kids

どんどんと太く大きくなっていくトライアングルをごおおんと鳴らす　　　　　　
     The triangle has got
     Very large and thick. It
     Rings very low

猫たちがあちらこちらで電線を綱渡りしている街がいい　　　　　　　　　　　　
     I love the town where
     Cats often walk on power lines
     Like a tightrope feat

三日月が地面に落ちてぴくぴくと動いて苦しそうにしていた　　　　　　　　　　
     The crescent moon was
     On the ground, twitching. It seemed
     To be in agony

三日月を数回ねじる　手を放すと回転しながら元どおりになる　　　　　　　　　
     I twist the crescent moon
     Several times. When released,
     It unfolds slowly
