タンポポはダンデライオン　ライオンってフフと笑ったらガオーと吠えた　　　　
     “Are you a lion?”
     When I asked it mockingly,
     The dandelion roared*

     *To tell the truth, a dandelion is not a lion, but “a tooth of a lion,” or “dent de lion” in French, so it doesn’t roar.

何もない宙にすうっとシャボン玉が現れてはまたすうっと消える　　　　　　　　
     From nothingness
     In the air, a soap bubble fades
     In and out, in and out

カタツムリが鏡の中へ頭から入っていってそのまま消えた
     From its head, a snail
     Went into the mirror and
     Disappeared as it went

猫になって駱駝の瘤が伸びをした　地面へ降りてすたすたと去った
     The hump of the camel
     Became a cat. Having stretched, it
     Jumped down and walked away

どこからか波打ちながら虹が来てふわっとかかり輝いている　　　　　　　　　　
     From somewhere, a rainbow
     Came, wavering. It is now fixed,
     But still a bit wavy

できるだけ大きくなっておかないと他の大きな者にやられる
     We must get as large as
     Possible, lest we should be killed
     By a larger one

ぎらぎらと輝く耳を覆わずにいるとまわりで人がまぶしがる
     My ears shine glaringly.
     I must cover them, or they
     Dazzle other people

笑い声の領域がある　地面からも空中からも聞こえる笑い
     A zone of laughter,
     Where we hear laughter from the ground
     And from the empty air

同極の磁石のように手のひらが反発し合い拍手できない
     I cannot clap, the palms
     Repelling each other like
     The same poles of magnets

自転車で走ってる人を追いかけて紙飛行機の群が飛んでいく　　　　　　　　　
     A cyclist is being
     Followed by a swarm of
     Flying paper planes

亀蝕や鯨蝕などいろいろな生き物が月や太陽をよぎる　　　　　　　　　　　　　
     The sun’s or the moon’s
     Eclipse by animals such as
     Turtle or whale
