Tanka in Japanese and Their English Versions: Dec. 2015
Having got tails and fins,
The stars are all swimming, singly,
Or gregariously
Kept out in the sun,
The book grows larger like a plant
Gradually
During the night, letters
Fell from the sky. At sunrise,
They all faded away
When I removed a plug
Without knowing what it is for,
All the stars stopped shining
After a dense blue fog,
All the buildings and people
Remained blueish
I won’t say anything
Heartless, nor say anything
Not from the heart
Into the Ferris wheel,
People enter as babies, and
Get out decrepit
I am wading
Through the starry sky,
Which lies around my feet
The wearer of the shoes
Vanishes, and the shoes appear
To move by themselves
In front of a showcase
Of wax samples of foods, the man
Is waving a baton
Whenever the child sulks,
She squats on the ceiling and would
Not come down to the floor
A lot of wall clocks
Were washed up onto the beach
And lay in agony
When the woman points
Her finger at some star,
It brightens suddenly
When I erased the man’s
Name written with a pencil, he
Vanished at the same time
We had polished the moon
Smooth, but a new meteorite
Formed a crater soon
My fingertips have
Become silkworms’ faces, and
Feed on mulberry leaves
For a whole day, I watched
The sky, across which a snail-shaped
Cloud passed several times
The strange flies make
Humans euphoric, while they
Settle on them
This hot water holds
Many letters in solution.
They settle as it cools
The moon, which had been
Getting dimpled, was at last
Crushed and became small
