人々が海岸へ来て次々とイルカになって沖へ泳ぎ去る　　　　　　　　　　　　
     Coming to the seashore,
     People become dolphins and
     Swim out to sea
 
星々の様子が変な晩だった　望遠鏡で見ると四角い　　　　　　　　　　　　　
     The stars all looked queer
     That night. Through a telescope,
     I found them to be square
 
夜になると柱がたくさん現れる　夜明けとともに柱は消える　　　　　　　　　
     At night, a number of
     Columns appear around me, but
     They disappear at dawn

亀の絵が真ん中にでんと描いてあるハンカチが床をゆっくり動く　　　　　　　
     A handkerchief 
     With a picture of a turtle
     Moves slowly on the floor
 
本人が気付かないうちに内臓も骨も筋肉も機械に変わる　　　　　　　　　　　
     Before one knows it, all
     Of one’s organs, bones, and muscles
     Change into machines
 
ヤッホーという声がするとヤッホーとこだまのように応えてしまう　　　　　　
     Each time I hear a cry
     From the distance, I cry back
     As if I am an echo
 
「ざらざらとしてるね」「ほんとざらざらだ」「虹がこんなにざらざらだなんて」
     “It’s rough.” “Yes, it’s almost
     Abrasive.” “I didn’t know
     Rainbows could feel so rough”
 
人気者に人々が鼻を押し当てる「鼻会」がよく開催される　　　　　　　　　　 　
     “Nose Sessions” in which fans
     Press their noses to their idol
     Are often held
 
しゃべる鼻とたまに喧嘩になるけれど鼻をねじると自分も痛い　　　　　　　　
     I sometimes quarrel
     With my nose which can speak. If I
     Wring it, it pains me, too
 
人々の耳がミミミミ、ミミミミと鳴き交わすのに聞き入っている　　　　　　　
     I listen to the ears
     Of the people around me
     Chirping, “mi-mi-mi-mi”*
 
     *In Japanese, the ear is “mimi.”
 
ごく普通に料理を食べても店を出ると空腹になる「まぼろし食堂」　　　　　　　
     “The Illusion Diner”
     Where we surly eat, but when we
     Go out, we get hungry
 
親銀河がエサを運んで育てていた雛銀河たちがやがて巣立った　　　　　　　
     A brood of galaxies
     Leave their nest, having been
     Fed by their parents
 
洪水で水につかると靴たちが魚になって泳ぎ始めた　　　　　　　　　　　　　
     The shoes, when submerged
     In the floodwaters, became fish
     And started swimming
 
木々の葉がおいしいおいしいおいしいと陽を浴びながらつぶやいている　　　　
     I heard leaves in the sun
     Muttering, “delicious,”
     Delicious, delicious”

その世界はすり鉢状でずるずると下へ下へと落ちるしかない　　　　　　　　　
     The cone-shaped world,
     In which we all have to slither
     Downwards and downwards

極小の虹をたくさん作り出しばらまきながら走り去っていく　　　　　　　　　
     Scattering countless
     Infinitesimal rainbows,
     They run away

静止している人々のある一人をくすぐってみたらみな動き出した　　　　　　　
     They were immobile and
     Stationary. When I tickled
     One, they began to move

水分が足りなくなると皮膚が水をスポンジのように吸い込む体質　　　　　　　
     My skin absorbs
     Water like a sponge, when
     I am thirsty

電線にリンゴが並んで止まっていた　バンと叫ぶとみな飛び立った　　　　　　
     I found apples perching
     On a power line. I shouted
     “Bang!” and they all flew off

何倍もの長さに鼻をぱっと伸ばす象にぼすっと鼻で突かれた　　　　　　　　　
     Stretching its trunk
     Several times longer,
     The elephant thrust me

満月の右半分が紫で左半分が黄緑な夜 
     Tonight, the right half
     Of the moon is purple, and
     The left is yellow green

その人は「多重年齢」で身も心も同時にちょくちょく年齢が変わる　　　　　　　
     “Multiple ages”:
     The age of the patient often
     Changes on a sudden

開ける時と閉める時とに一度ずつ人間のようにくしゃみする扉　　　　　　　　
     Each time it is
     Opened and closed, the door
     Sneezes like a human

私が気付かぬうちに指たちがいなくなっていることがたまにある　　　　　　　
     Sometimes, before I know,
     My fingers all desert me,
     Though for a while

ハキハキに取り憑かれるとその間モニョモニョとしゃべることができない　　　
     While we are possessed
     By “Crisp,” we cannot mumble,
     Forced to speak crisply

虫眼鏡で私を見る人もいるがたいてい見向きもされないで暮らす　　　　　　　
     I am sometimes seen
     Through a magnifying glass, but
     Otherwise overlooked

むにゅむにゅと月が動いている夜はなるだけ空を見ないようにする　　　　　　
     I avoid looking skyward
     On nights when the moon changes
     Its shape as if alive

私を十分に練るといくつかにちぎって丸めオーブンに入れた　　　　　　　　　
     When kneaded enough,
     I was torn, rolled up and
     Put in the oven

ストローをくわえて先からしゃぼん玉のように言葉をふうっと吹き出す　　　　
     Like so many
     Soap bubbles, I blow out
     Words through a straw

どこからか転がってきた球がもう転がらないでここに居ついた　　　　　　　　
     From somewhere a ball
     Came rolling, and has settled here,
     Not rolling any more
