ひらがなが空を流れる　「あ」なら「あー」と流れる間声を発して　　　　　　　
     At times, a letter shoots
     Across the sky, screaming “a—”
     If it is “a”

満月が綿毛を飛ばしながら欠ける　綿毛は端からまた生え始める　　　　　　　　
     The moon wanes, scattering
     Its fluff, piece after piece. Fluff
     Begins to grow again
 
宙に浮かぶ球のまわりを数匹のテントウムシがぐるぐる回る　　　　　　　　　　
     Around a sphere which
     Hovers in the air, several
     Ladybirds are circling
 
起き上がり猫の形の塊になってとことこ去る水たまり　　　　　　　　　　　　　
     The puddle sat up;
     Becoming a mass in the shape
     Of a cat, it walked off
 
三日月を誰かが握った跡がある　誰かが噛んだ歯の跡もある　　　　　　　　　　
     The crescent has marks
     Of somebody’s grasp; it also
     Has marks of teeth
 
字の群が魚のようにその中を泳ぎ回っている本を読む　　　　　　　　　　　　　
     I am reading a book,
     In which letters are swimming,
     Like a school of fish
 
目覚めるとまだ暗い部屋でカーテンがオーロラのように輝いていた　　　　　　　
     At dawn, in the still dark
     Room, the curtain was shining
     Like an aurora
 
昨日から今日へと渡る踏切がたまに閉まっていることがある　　　　　　　　　　
     There is a crossing
     From yesterday to today.
     Sometimes it is closed
 
行頭から行末に向け行対抗伝言ゲームをしている文字たち　　　　　　　　　　　
     Chinese whispers
     Played by letters, from the head
     To the end of a line
 
くしゃみする時にはいつも一斉に十本そろってくしゃみする指　　　　　　　　　
     My fingers sneeze;
     Whenever they sneeze, they all
     Sneeze in unison
 
それぞれのページで文字が中心へ寄り集まって押しくらまんじゅう　　　　　　　
     Letters of each page
     Gather at the center, and push
     Against one another
 
壁の目の分布密度が限界まで高まり満員御礼となる　　　　　　　　　　　　　
     Eyes on the wall
     Continued to increase until
     The wall was quite full
 
その人の頭の上ではブーメランがいつもくるくる回転している　　　　　　　　　
     Above the head
     Of the person, a boomerang
     Is always spinning
 
鉛筆の芯が螺旋階段でもあることなんて周知の事実　　　　　　　　　　　　　　
     It is a well-known fact
     That a pencil lead is also
     A spiral staircase
 
ばりばりと殻を破って現れた月がゆっくり空へ昇った　　　　　　　　　　　　　
     The moon came out
     Of the shell, breaking it, and
     Rose slowly to the sky
 
私の顔の黒子が蠅のようにぶーんと飛んで誰かに留まる　　　　　　　　　　　　
     The mole on my face
     Buzzes around like a fly and
     Settles on someone
 
長く伸びた夕方の影のような人が朝から晩まで街を行き交う　　　　　　　　　　
     People like long shadows
     In the evening are walking
     To and fro in the street
 
星々は輝いていても冷たいので麻の袋に入れて運べる　　　　　　　　　　　　　
     Though the stars are shining,
     They are cold enough, and can be
     Carried in hemp bags.
 
猿たちが鏡の前で口紅を塗ってはにかっと歯を見せて笑う　　　　　　　　　　　
     Putting on rouge
     On their lips, monkeys grin
     In front of mirrors
 
駱駝の背の瘤がぽろっと取れて落ち新しい瘤がその跡にできる　　　　　　　　　
     A bump on a camel’s
     Back falls off and a new one
     Grows in its place
 
単体ではかさかさなのに群になると急にねばねばする人間たち　　　　　　　　　
     Individually,
     Humans feel dry, but get sticky
     As soon as they gather
 
足が生えぱかぱか走る三日月にまたがって空の奥へ駆け去る　　　　　　　　　　
     Astride the crescent
     Which had got legs, the person
     Galloped away
