Three empires and People in the East, 三帝国と東方の人々
In the first half of the 3rd century, three forces emerged in East Asia. Eventually, each of them began to call itself, "empire".
3世紀の前半、東アジアに、3個の勢力が、発生した。やがて、その勢力は、それぞれ、自らを、[帝国]と称し始めた。
After all of those [three empires] were extinguished,
Chén Shòu wrote the history of these empires, in one document.
その[3帝国]が消滅した後、
陳寿 (Chén Shòu)は、それらの帝国の歴史を、一つの書物に、著した。
In the document,
descriptions about the various peoples,
who lived in the area, to the east of
one of [three empires], (as shown in the figure below)
are included.
その書物には、
[三帝国]のうちの一つの帝国
の、東の方に住んでいた、様々な人々（下図に示したような）
についての記述も、含まれていた。
The subject of this contents is a [part of the document],
that describes,
what is related to [Wa-jin] ( written in above figure ).
From now on, I will refer to this part, as [Part about Wa-jin].
このコンテンツで、題材として用いるのは、その中のある部分、すなわち、[Wa-jin] （上図中に記載の）に関する事が書かれている部分である。
以降、この部分の事を、[Part about Wa-jin]と、記することに、する。

2. Woman X, 女の人・X
There are descriptions of [one certain woman], in [Part about Wa-jin].
In the descriptions, she is described as, [jo-ou].
[Part about Wa-jin]には、[ある一人の女の人]に関する記述が、ある。
その記述において、彼女は、[女王]と表記されている。
A quote from [Ref. 1] is shown, in the figure below.
文献1よりの引用を、下図に示す。
The word marked in red, in the above figure,
is pronounced [jo-ou], in Japanese.
If this word is translated as [queen] ( in English ), it is likely to cause a big misunderstanding.
Because,
there are many unknowns,
regarding the political system of [Wa-jin] society
at the time, she was alive.
上図中、赤色でマークした語の、日本語での発音は、[jo-ou]となるのだが、
この語を、[queen]と訳してしまうと、大きな誤解を招きやすい。
なぜならば、
彼女が生きていた頃の、[Wa-jin]の社会の政治体制
に関しては、
不明な点が多くある
からだ。
Therefore,
her political role, in [Wa-jin] society,
cannot be equated with
that of
Maria Theresia, or Xī Tàihòu.
よって、[Wa-jin]の社会の中での、彼女の政治的な役割を、
Maria Theresia、あるいは、西太后（Xī Tàihòu)
らのそれと、同一視することは、できないのだ。
So, from now on, I will refer to her, as [Woman X].
だから、これ以降、私は、彼女のことを、[Woman X]と、表記することにする。

3 She had a certain power, 彼女は、あるpowerを持っていた
From the description in [Part about Wa-jin], we can derive the following,
[Woman X] had a certain power.
The power is, such that,
change
[the direction] of
[
[vector of action]
of
[many of the members, that make up the [Wa-jin] society]
]
to
[the direction]
that converge to one particular point.

[Part about Wa-jin]に記述されている事から、以下のような事を、導出することが、できる。
[Woman X]は、ある力を持っていた。
その力とは、
[Wa-jin]社会を構成するメンバーたちの多く
の
[[行動のベクトル]([vector of action])
の方向
]
を、
[1個の特定の地点に、収束するような
方向
]
に、
変える、
というような、力である。(Fig 3.1)
The following statements in [Part about Wa-jin]
indicate that, she had that [power].
(1) In the country of [Wa-jin], ( that is, [Wa-koku] ), there was a male [Ou].
(2) For seventy or eighty years, [Wa-koku] was in a state of civil war.
(3) [Wa-jin] supported together, a woman, and she became, female [Ou].
( The woman is [Woman X]. The description [jo-ou], in [Part about Wa-jin], means [female [Ou]].)
(4) After [Woman X] died, [Wa-koku] was again, in a state of civil war, and more than a thousand people were killed.
(5) [Wa-jin] supported a 13 year old woman, and she became, female [Ou].
(6) The state of civil war ended.
[Part about Wa-jin]に書かれている、下記のような事が、彼女がその[power]を持っていたことを、示している。
(1)[Wa-jin]の国、（すなわち、[Wa-koku]）には、男性のOuが、いた
(2)7、８0年間、[Wa-koku]では、内乱状態が、続いた
(3)[Wa-jin]たちは、一人の女の人を、共に擁立して、Ouとした。（その人が、[Woman X]だ）
(4)[Woman X]が亡くなった後、[Wa-koku]は、再び、内乱状態となり、1000人よりも多い数の人々が、殺された
(5)[Wa-jin]たちは、13歳の女の人を、Ouとした
(6)内乱状態は、終わった。
[Woman X] was able to
mediate [Wa-jin],
and change
the [direction of the [vector of their action]],
from
[fighting with each other]
to
[not in conflict, with each other].
[Woman X]は、[Wa-jin]たちを調停し、
[互いに争う]状態
から、
[互いの衝突が無い]状態
へと、
彼らの
[[行動のベクトル]の方向]
を、変えることが、できたのだ。
After her death, such power ( ability ) was lost. So, [Wa-jin] were back to fighting each other, again.
彼女が死んだ後、そのような能力は、失われた。だから、[Wa-jin]たちは、再び、相争う状態に、戻ってしまったのだ。
However, there were also [Wa-jin], who were not mentioned above.
These are the [Wa-jin],
who were outside the range,
where the power of [Woman X] was active.
In [Part about Wa-jin], an area called [Ku-na-koku], is described.
It seems that,
the power of [Woman X] did not reach the [Wa-jin], who live there.
ただし、上記には記されていない、[Wa-jin]たち も、存在していた。[Woman X]のpowerが作用する範囲の外にいたWa-jinたちである。
[Part about Wa-jin]には、[Ku-na-koku]というエリアが、記されている。その地に住む[Wa-jin]たちには、[Woman X]のpowerは、届かなかったようだ。
So, hereafter, the members, who made up the society of [Wa-jin], will be categorized and described in the following two groups.
[people, influenced by [Woman X]]
[people, not influenced by [Woman X]]
よって、以降、[Wa-jin]たちの社会を構成していたメンバーを、下記の2グループに分類して、記述していく。

[people, not influenced by [Woman X]]

4 Sources of the power, そのpowerの源泉
In descriptions in [Part about Wa-jin] (shown in the figure below),
We can find the source of such power ( she had ).
[Part about Wa-jin]の中の記述 (下図に示された)の中に、
彼女が持っていた、そのようなpowerの源泉を、見出すことができる。
[description (1)] in the above figure, means the following,
上図の中の、(1)の記述は、以下のような事を、意味している。
Using a [certain method],
[Woman X]
changed
thought and behavior
of [people, influenced by [Woman X]].
[ある手法]を用いて、
[Woman X] は、
[people, influenced by [Woman X]]の
思想と行動
を
変えた。
The word, marked with (A) in Fig. 4.1 (pronounced [ki-dou] in Japanese)
indicates
the [certain method].
And,
the word, marked with (B) in Fig. 4.1
indicates
[changing thought and behavior]
( of [people, influenced by [Woman X]] ).

その[ある手法(certain method)]を、示し、

[思想と行動 を 変える]を、示している。
There are many theories as to, what exactly is the method of the word marked with (A). So, I do not explain them, here.
(A)でマークされている語が、具体的には、どのような手法であるのか、という事については、諸説ある。だから、ここでは、それに関する説明は、行わない。
She is well versed in the [certain method], and can put them to good use. She is a person, with the ability to do so.
[people, influenced by [Woman X]] must have seen her thoughts and actions, up to that point, and gradually became to think, as above.
彼女は、その[手法]を熟知し、それを有効に活用できる、彼女は、そのような能力を持つ人である。
[people, influenced by [Woman X]]は、それまでの、彼女の思考やを行動を、見てきて、次第に、上記のように考えるように、なったのであろう。
"Since, she says so, it would be okay, to go along with it."
They felt such a sense of trust.
In other words, she had such a large amount of [power].
「彼女が、そのように言っているのだから、それに従っても、いいだろう。」
そのような、信頼感を、彼らは感じていた。
言葉を変えれば、彼女は、そのような、大きい量の[権威]を、持っていたのである。

And, I deduce, as follows,

To keep
such trust
from [people, influenced by [Woman X]],
[Woman X] adopted two measures, as follows.
そのような
[people, influenced by [Woman X]]
からの信頼を、保ち続けるために、
[Woman X]は、以下のような2つの手段を、採用した。

There is a possibility that,
the activities of
[being in frequent contact, with [people, influenced by [Woman X]]]
may work
in the direction of increasing
the amount of [Woman X]'s [power].
But,
There is a risk of
working
in the direction of decreasing
the amount of [Woman X]'s [power].
[people, influenced by [Woman X]]と、頻繁に接触する
という行動には、
power pf [Woman X] を、増大せしめる方向に働く可能性もあるが、
power pf [Woman X] を、減少せしめる方向に働くリクスも、ある。
If, she inadvertently say or do something, that is not appropriate,
in front of [people, influenced by [Woman X]],
her [power] will be diminished.
適切ではないような発言や行動を、
[people, influenced by [Woman X]]の前で、
うっかりしてしまえば、
彼女の[power]は、減少してしまうだろう。
Hence, she did the following.
そこで彼女は、次のようにした。
Having minimal contact with [people, influenced by [Woman X]],
as described in the passage marked (C) ( in Fig. 4.1 ).
(C)(Fig. 4.1 )でマークされている箇所に記述されているように、[people, influenced by [Woman X]]との接触を、極小にした。

She set her residence and place of business,
more luxurious,
than
that of [people, influenced by [Woman X]],
as described in the passage marked (D) ( in Fig. 4.1 ).
(D)(Fig 4.1)でマークされている箇所に記述されているように、自分の住居と仕事場を、[people, influenced by [Woman X]]の、それよりも、豪華なものにした。
The description marked with (D), mean the following,
The palace, observation tower, and palace fence,
were constructed so that,
those, who see them
will feel a sense of solemnity.
(D)でマークされている箇所の記述は、次のような事を、意味している。
宮室・楼観・城柵を、それを見る人が、厳かに感じるようなふうに、建設した。

In [Saga Prefecture, Japan], there is [the Yoshinogari Ruins].
This is considered to be the remains of a community at the time, [Woman X] lived.
佐賀県に、[吉野ヶ里遺跡]がある。
これは、[Woman X]が生きていた当時の、1個の共同体の遺跡であると、考察されている。

次のように、考えてよいだろう、
[Woman X]は、

If we compare the above two types of areas, to live and work, we will get the following composition. (Fig. 4.2).
上記の2種類の、生活と働きの場を、比較することにより下記のような構図 (Fig. 4.2)が得られるだろう。

[Woman X] is able to
keep
the amount of her own [power],
greater than
that of [people, influenced by [Woman X]].
この [Framework of Power and Altitude stage]の構図を用いることにより、
[Woman X]は、
自らの[権威]の量
を、
[people, influenced by [Woman X]]のそれ
よりも、
大きい値に保ち続けることができるだろう。
Alternatively,
If we suppose that,
[ki-dou], that are full used by [Woman X]
belongs to
shamanism,
it is possible to set up
a [Framework of Power and Altitude stage] composition,
as shown below ( Fig 4.4).
あるいは、
[Woman X]が駆使していた
[ki-dou]は、
shamanismに属するものである
と、考えるならば、
下記 (Fig 4.4)のような [Framework of Power and Altitude stage]の構図を設定することも、可能となるだろう。

from some [transcendent being]
to [people, influenced by [Woman X]],

という構図だ。

and unshakeable trust
from [people, influenced by [Woman X]].

を、保ち続けていったのであろう、と。
