Without me,with you(私がいなくても、あなたがいれば)[依頼されたわけではないが緒真坂「極北」あとがきを英訳してみた]
Afterword
I have read an essay written by Osawa
Arimasa saying that he writes a novel
only when he is asked.A professional
writer will naturally do so.
If he is a professional novelist,he will
begin to write a novel after some
editors of magazines have decided
whether they need a short novel or
a long one, whether they want him
to write once or many times, how
many pages they need,and sometimes
after they've decided even the theme
of a novel they want.This is a
professional job.
However,there are people in this
world who begin to write a novel
although nobody asks them to.
Most writers on the Internet are
cases in point. There are a lot of
such people the number of which
nobody can count.
In cases of the Internet,a novel will
never naturally disappear as long as
the writer decides to delete it.It will
still remain as it is,and many novels
are continuing to be written.
To think of the tremendous number of
such novels makes me feel at a loss
what to do.
Most of the writers are seriousness
itself. They write what they want to
write in order to let the world know
their thoughts or their hidden
emotion.Nobody will probably catch
all of them, that is,nobody will be able
to read all the novels on the Internet
from corner to corner.
A stage without any audience.
A live concert without any listeners.
A novel without any readers.
I am one of such voluntary writers as
continue to write novels.
A voluntary writer will no longer need
others.Even when I stop writing,
nobody will be in trouble. Not a soul
notices that I've stopped writing
novels.
A disappearance without a sound.
Nevertheless,I have been writing a
novel.As there is no profit,what
motivates me to write doesn't
consist in making money. As far as
I am concerned,writing is not a job,or
something similar to a job, or
something more important than a
job. There's no answer to the question
why I write.I still haven't found any
answers.
I always think your presence gets the
better of my presence.There's no
need for my presence.I don't have to
write as long as you still exist.
"Your presence without my
presence " is what Natsume Hibiki
said to Tamaki-sensei.But these words
similar to such a cry might be my own.
