トマトいろいろ
夏の家庭菜園といえばトマトですが、我が家は毎年虫に食われたり、暑すぎたりでなかなか思うように行きませんでした。
しかし今年は大小いろいろなトマトが収穫できました。
スプーントマト
つかむのが難しいくらい小さなトマトです。とっても甘くてプチプチした食感がたまりません。
ミニトマト
なんと去年育てたトマトの種が落ちて自然に発芽しました。ほっといても出てきてくれるなんてうれしい。味も甘くて最高です
大きな赤いトマト
今回一番うれしいのは初めての大きいサイズのトマトがたくさんできたこと。
このトマトはその名もまさにlarge red tomatoesといって、古くからアメリカでトマトソースなどに使われていたそうです。
とちゅうで葉の色がだんだんくすんできて枯れてしまうかなと思ったのですが、ミシシッピ州立大学のアドバイスで肥料を与えたら見事復活しました!
たくさんとれたので、念願のトマトソースの瓶詰にもチャレンジすることができました!自分で作ったトマトソースは濃厚でおいしいです♪

Tomatoes are the quintessential summer vegetable. But every year, our plants were eaten by bugs or stifled by the heat, so growing wasn’t as easy as I hoped.
But this year, we were able to harvest many types of tomatoes, some big and some small.
Spoon Tomatoes
These tomatoes are almost too small to pick. They are very sweet and have a unique texture, making a popping sound when you bite into them.
Cherry Tomatoes
Surprisingly, these tomatoes sprouted naturally from seeds that fell from the tomatoes we grew last year. It’s great when something like that comes up with no work. And the sweet flavor is the bes
Large red tomatoes
The happiest thing for us this year was that we were able to harvest a lot of larger tomatoes for the first time.
These are called ‘Large Red’ tomatoes, which is exactly what they look like.
They have been used for tomato sauce and stuff like that for a long time.
While we were growing them, the leaves of our tomato plants started to wither and we were worried they might die, but thanks to some advice we got from Mississippi State University, we gave them some fertilizer and they came right back to life!
