形を変え次の世代に。そのためには作家の力が必要 　Change shape to the next generation. For that, the power of the artist is necessary

煎茶稽古には欠かせない教科書として掛軸がある。
掛軸には画や文字(賛)が描かれている。画なら水墨画、南画、日本画など、文字では毛筆字など。それらを包み衣装として形成され作品に仕立てるのが表装(表具・軸装)である。

There is a hanging scroll as an indispensable textbook for sencha practice.
Pictures and characters (praise) are drawn on the hanging scroll. Ink paintings, Nanga, Japanese paintings, etc. for paintings, and brush writing for characters. It is the outer cover (tableware / shaft) that is formed as a wrapping costume and tailored to the work.

軸装作家として活躍されている辻めぐみさんの作業場である神戸 KllTOに伺った。生徒さんの掛軸づくりを見せていただくためである。
生徒さんは、祖母が大切に保存されていた男物の紋付の背柄を利用し、掛軸として残したい、という思い一念で辻さんの工房に通い始めた。
初めての表装に四苦八苦されながらも中廻(ちゅうまわし)と柱が出来上がった。表装というのは、本紙(画・文字)が生かされてこその表装である。中廻(周り)の生地、色柄と本紙がいかに合うかが最大のポイント。熟達した能力が必要とされる。つまり、本紙の作品を理解し、それに対し、柱、中廻、一文字等(周り)の色柄を決められる技量が求められる。

l visited Kobe KllTO, the workshop of Megumi Tsuji, who is active as a shaft artist. This is to show the students how to make hanging scrolls.
The students started going to Tsuji's workshop with the desire to use the crested spine of a man's thing that her grandmother had carefully preserved and leave it as a hanging scroll. Despite struggling with the first appearance, the chumawashi and pillars were completed. The outer cover is the one that makes the best use of this paper (pictures / characters). The biggest point is how the fabric and color pattern of the chumawari (surroundings) match this paper. Skilled abilities are required. In other words, it is necessary to have the skill to understand the work of this paper and to decide the color pattern of pillars, middle circles, one letter, etc. (surroundings).

大切にしたいモノが、世代を越えモノの形は変われど次の世代に伝わり残されていく。その方法として、「表装」の役割は大きいが、残念ながら職人が少なくなっているのは時代の流れ。そんな中で、辻さんのような、新しい時代の斬新なモノづくりをする作家の力が必要になっているのは間違いない。

Things that you want to cherish will be passed down to the next generation, although the shape of things will change across generations. As a method of doing so, the role of "covering" is large, but unfortunately the number of craftsmen is decreasing due to the passage of time. Under such circumstances, there is no doubt that the power of a artist like Mrs. Tsuji who creates innovative products in a new era is needed.
