【通訳案内士】Shogi 将棋

藤井聡太さんの活躍で、最近、将棋人口が増えてきたようです。僕も中学、高校の時は囲碁・将棋部でしたが、もっぱら五目並べやはさみ将棋、将棋倒しをやってさぼっていました。久々に将棋をやってみたいと思い、ふるさと納税で山形県天童市に寄付をし、将棋の駒をもらいました。（写真は、ふるさと納税の後、アンケートをして頂いたものです。裏には自分の名前を入れることができます。）木のにおいで部室を思い出し、ちょいと懐かしくなりました。今日は将棋について書きたいと思います。

Shogi 将棋

Shogi is a board game which is played by two players. It is similar to chess. However, in Shogi, you can use the pieces that you pick up from your opponent as an ally. Each pieces have their original moves and the player uses these pieces to hunt down an opponent’s king. If the opponent’s king cannot escape, the player wins. We use 9×9 squares and 40 pieces (20 pieces for each player) in Shogi.
将棋は二人で行うボードゲームです。チェスと似ていますが、将棋の場合はとった駒を自分の味方として使うことができます。駒それぞれに動き方があり、それらを使って相手の王将を追い込むゲームです。相手の王将が逃げられなくなったら、勝ちとなります。9×9のマス、40枚の駒を使います。

It came from India long time ago. Its origin is same as chess. However, we don’t know exactly when it came to Japan. In the Edo era (it is about the 17th century), it was already played by commoner. And the government recognized some Shogi head family schools, too. “Meijin（名人）” which means “master” title and it started around this period. Now, we have a lot of titles, and some professional players enter matches to get them. There are some events that amateurs and beginners can participate. Network Shogi is also getting popular. In Japan, it is said that 7 million people play Shogi.
古代インドから伝わったとされていて、チェスト同じ起源と言われています。いつ日本に伝わったのか、という事はよくわかっていません。江戸時代には庶民にも知れ渡っており、幕府から認められた家元がありました。
そこから「名人」と呼ばれるタイトルもできました。現在では様々なタイトルが増え、棋士と呼ばれるプロの人たちがタイトルに挑戦します。アマチュアや一般の人も参加できる大会や、ネット対戦も普及しています。現在、日本では700万人ほどの将棋人口がいます。

Shogi was a little bit difficult to spread overseas, because the name of each pieces is written in Chinese characters. But recently, international Shogi pieces are invented and foreign people can understand the name of each pieces and movement easily.
The famous production place of Shogi pieces is Tendō-city in Yamagata prefecture. In April, special festival called “Ningen-shogi” is held (Ningen means people or human). It is played by real people who wear classical Japanese armors and people move like shogi pieces on a big shogi board.
将棋の駒は漢字で書かれているので、海外への普及はあまり進みませんでしたが、最近は国際将棋駒と呼ばれるものがあり、海外の方にもわかりやすい標記になっています。
駒の名産地として山形県天童市があげられ、4月には「人間将棋」といった催しが開かれます。これは、戦国時代の侍の格好をした人たちが実際に駒になって大きな盤の上で将棋をするというものです。
