２月の暦：2025年1月28日（火）

大学の研究室内に置いてある衣装ボックスの扉には，いつも２か月分のカレンダーを貼っておくことにしている。2025年になって本当に時間が過ぎるのが早く，もう1月も最終週となり，衣装ボックスの扉の上段には2月，下段に3月のカレンダーを貼り替えることにした。

　2月のカレンダーに予定イベント等を書き入れていく。あっという間に，黒字の日の欄のスペースが文字で一杯になってしまった。「一月往ぬる，二月逃げる，三月去る」とも言われるように，年明け後の3か月はあっという間に過ぎていく。

　昨年は閏年（4年毎のオリンピック開催年と一致）で2月は29日間だったが，今年は28日間。土日が8日間，祝日（建国記念日，天皇誕生日）が2日間であるので，土日祝日を休日としている人は，28日間のうち10日間が休日である。実際には難しいかもしれないが，仮に，2月に有給休暇を1週間取得すれば，休む日数のほうが多くなり，働く日は11日間ということになるわけであり，そう考えると，いっそのこと，1か月間休暇を取るのも夢ではないのかもしれない。

The February Calendar: Tuesday, January 28, 2025

On the door of the costume box in my university lab, I always make it a point to display two months’ worth of calendars. With 2025 already flying by, January has entered its final week. I decided to replace the calendar on the upper section of the door with February and the lower section with March.

As I began writing scheduled events and notes on February’s calendar, the blank spaces in the black-inked date boxes quickly filled up with text. As the saying goes, “January passes, February flees, and March vanishes,” the first three months of the year truly seem to fly by in no time.

Last year was a leap year (which coincides with the year of the Summer Olympics every four years), giving February 29 days. This year, however, February has only 28 days, including 8 weekend days and 2 national holidays (National Foundation Day and the Emperor’s Birthday). For those who take weekends and holidays off, 10 out of the 28 days are already holidays.

Though it might be difficult in practice, if one were to take a week of paid leave in February, the number of days off would exceed the number of workdays, leaving only 11 days of work in the month. With that perspective, perhaps the idea of taking an entire month off doesn’t seem so far-fetched after all.
