September 5, 2024: Toilet （トイレ）

Last week was the week of the typhoon. A powerful typhoon hit the whole of Japan last week, and caused a lot of damage in various areas. It put the extreme heat in July and August out of my mind.
But I cannot afford to forget it. It was one of the most extreme heats I have ever had and gave me a few lessons. Among the lessons I learnt from the summer was the matter of the toilet in my house, which was the biggest issue. The toilet is in the center of the house without a window. It has a small fan, but it cannot cool the room. So, it is so hot like a sauna bath in the summer. It is too hot in the summer to stay in. In the summer, I have to stay there sweating a lot, and I sometimes have difficulty breathing. I have also felt my blood pressure going up. I have not had the trouble in my 40 or 50s. But the older I have got, the more I have had the trouble.
The other day, I talked about it to my wife. She also agreed with it. It was too hot even for her to stay. So, we agreed to do something with it before the next summer comes. For now, I do not know what to do with the trouble. I tried to find something that is likely to make the room comfortable on Amazon. But none of them seem to be of help. I found a number of portable air conditioners. They seem to cool down the toilet. But they seem to be too big to put any of them in my toilet room. And others are of no help. It does not seem to be easy to find something to cool the toilet.

　先週は台風ウイークでした。強力な台風が日本中を襲い、各地で大きな被害をもたらしました。おかげで7月、8月の猛暑は頭から消えてしまいました。
　でも、忘れるわけにはいきません。これまでに経験したことのない酷暑であり、学んだこともありました。そのなかでも、大問題だったのがトイレです。我が家のトイレは家の真ん中にあり、窓がありません。小さな換気扇はありますが、部屋を冷やすことはできません。そのため、夏はサウナのように暑いです。あまりに暑すぎていられません。汗だくになりながら、トイレをします。時には、息苦しさを感じることもあります。また、血圧が上がるのを感じることもあります。40、50代のころはこんなことはありませんでした。年を取るにつれて、悩むようになりました。
　先日、そのことを妻に話したら、妻も同じ意見でした。彼女も暑くていられなかったようです。そこで、次の夏までに何とかしようということになりました。今のところ、どうしたらいいのかわかりません。アマゾンで快適になりそうなものを探してみましたが、どれも役に立ちそうにありません。ポータブルエアコンがいくつかありました。トイレを冷やしてくれそうですが、どれも大きすぎて、我が家のトイレには置けそうにありません。他のものも役に立ちそうにありません。トイレを冷やすものを見つけるのは簡単ではなさそうです。
