October 14, 2024: Shopping Mall（ショッピングモール）

It was in September that I went to the biggest shopping mall in Japan. It was the first time I had been there in about 5 years. It is not far from my house, or rather it is just in ten minutes by train. I had often used to go there with with my wife. I do not know since when, but I have become reluctant to go there.
When I went there in September, I found it great fun to walk there. As soon as I entered into it, I found a lot of changes in the shops in the mall. Some had closed and left, and others had changed their location and layout. An ice-cream shop had closed. It was a popular shop that caused a boom. A green tea shop had also quit. It used to offer a wide variety of green tea. On the other hand, a famous bookstore, Tsutaya, has been still open. But it has changed its location. It located in the centre of the mall, the busiest area, with a wider space. It had more books than it used to, which inspired me to find the books that appeal to me. I was in the shop about an hour and bought a book. I was also surprised to see automatic checkout machines. I had never used them before. But I tried it. I was afraid that if I did not get used to it, I would be out of date. But I did not know how to use it and I was embarrassed about it. Then, a shop clerk raced to me and told me how to use it. It was a good lesson to learn that if I did not try new things, I would be out of date.
Then, it was a time for lunch, and I went to a hamburger restaurant. I had a hamburger and bread with a glass of white wine. At that time, I still had no problem having alcohol and enjoyed it very much.
After that, I continued to walk in the mall and reached the end of the mall. So, I began to return to the gate. But it was far, and I was a bit tired. So, I came back to the gate while taking rest on the seats which are sometimes placed on the streets.
I knew that it was a good exercise to walk the mall. It was all flat and did not require me to worry about the weather. I will go there again soon.

　日本最大のショッピングモールに行ったのは9月のことでした。約5年ぶりでした。場所は、家からそれほど遠くなく、電車で10分ほどです。以前はよく妻と一緒に行きました。でも、いつの頃からか、行くのが億劫になりました。
　ひさびさに歩いたら、楽しかったです。モールに入ると、店はずいぶん変わっていました。閉店して出て行った店もあれば、場所やレイアウトを変えた店もありました。アイスクリーム店は、閉店していました。一時はブームを巻き起こした人気店だったのですが。緑茶の店も撤退していました。緑茶の種類が豊富だったのですが。一方、有名書店のTsutayaは営業を続けていました。でも、場所も変わり、モールで一番賑やかな中心に移っていました。更に、スペースも広くなっていました。以前よりも本の数も増えていて、自分好みの本を探す気になりました。1時間ほど店内にいて、本を買いました。自動精算機にも驚かされました。それまで一度も使ったことがなかったのですが、挑戦してみました。慣れないと時代遅れになると思ったからです。でも、使い方がわからず、戸惑いました。そしたら、店員さんが駆け寄ってきて、使い方を教えてくれました。新しいことに手を出さないと時代遅れになることがよくわかりました。
　その後、昼食の時間になり、ハンバーガーショップに行きました。ハンバーグとパンに白ワインをいただきました。このときは、まだお酒を飲むことに抵抗がなく、とても美味しかったです。
　そして、ショッピングモールの中を歩き続け、ショッピングモールの端に到達しました。そこで、入口に戻ることにしました。でも入口までは遠いし、ちょっと疲れました。そこで、通路に置いてあるシートで休みながら入口に戻りました。
　ショッピングモールを歩くのはいい運動になりました。平らだし、天気を気にする必要もありません。また近いうちに行く予定です。
