August 16, 2024: Tokyo Swindlers, Cinema （地面師たち、映画館）

On a weekend a few weeks ago, I spent all the weekend watching a couple of drama series on Netflix. Among them was the drama series Tokyo Swindlers, which attracted me the most. The drama series is the story of swindlers in Tokyo, who are played by Etusi Toyokawa, Go Ayano and Eiko Koike. They try to get wind of prime real estate worth 10 billion yen and stop at nothing to pull off their most ambitious scam. The boss, who is played by Etsuji Toyokawa, is extremely cruel and treats other members as dogs. He does not mind killing them, if necessary. He plays the role very well and is perfectly suited for the role. He has a good partner who works out the strategy for the scams, played by Go Ayano. The partner is very clever and has been successful in a lot of scams. But they fail in the last scam which is the biggest one in their history. And the drama ends in an unexpected twist. It is worth watching from the beginning to the end.
On the weekend, I was so exhausted that I stopped doing my routines for change. I stayed at home all the day and kept watching the dramas. When I was tired of watching them, I went to bed to have a rest. On the weekend, I only watched the dramas, which helped me to refresh myself. It also told me that films and drams are valuable for a change.
For a while now, it is common for me to watch films and dramas on on-demand services, and I have been away from the cinema for a few years. It was before the COVID-19 pandemic that I last went to see a film at the cinema near my home.
I do not know whether this is my fault or not, but the cinema near my home is closing at the end of November. It is a great pity that my town is losing the entertainment venue.

　数週間前の週末は、ネットフリックスでドラマを見て過ごしました。その中で一番惹かれたのが『地面師たち』でした。豊川悦司、綾野剛と小池栄子たちが演じる東京の地面師が、100億円の市場価値を持つ希少な土地に目をつけ、あらゆる手段を使って前代未聞の巨額詐欺を成功させようとする話です。豊川悦司さん演じるボスは非常に残虐で、他のメンバーを虫けらのように扱います。必要なら平気で殺してしまいます。豊川さんが上手で、はまり役です。彼には優秀な相棒がいます。綾野剛さん演じるこの相棒は、地面師詐欺の戦略参謀です。この相棒が、すごく賢く、数々の地面師詐欺を成功させてきました。でも、最後の過去最大の詐欺で失敗してしまうのです。そしてドラマは予想外の展開で幕を閉じます。最初から最後まで見応えたっぷりです。
　この週末は、疲れ切っていたので、気分転換に、全ての日課を止めました。一日中家にいて、ドラマを見続け、疲れたら。ベッドで休みました。週末はドラマを見る以外は何もしなかったので、リフレッシュできました。また、映画やドラマは気分転換には欠かせないということもよくわかりました。
 　このところ、映画やドラマはオンデマンドで見るのが当たり前になってしまい、映画館にはご無沙汰です。近所の映画館に最後に行ったのは、コロナ禍の前でした。
　そのせいかどうか知りませんが、その映画館が11月末で閉館することになりました。ボクの町から娯楽施設がなくなるのはとても残念です。
