More than 1,300 food items, including frozen foods and ice cream, will see price increases this month, exceeding 1,000 for the first time in five months.
According to a survey conducted by Teikoku Databank targeting 195 major food manufacturers in Japan, 1,392 food items will see price increases this month, exceeding 1,000 for the first time in five months.
By item, frozen foods, or "processed foods," which all major companies raised their prices at once, were the most common, with 757 items, accounting for more than half of the total. In addition, 169 items of "confectionery," such as ice cream and chocolate products, and 135 items of "alcoholic beverages and beverages," such as whiskey and coffee drinks, saw price increases.
Research companies say that the price increases are due to rising raw material prices due to abnormal weather, as well as increased costs for logistics and packaging materials.
Meanwhile, the number of food items that have experienced or are scheduled to experience price increases between January and November this year is 11,872, roughly 40% of the number during the same period last year.
Regarding this situation, a research company points out that although the momentum for price increases has weakened compared to last year, the proportion of price increases due to factors such as rising labor costs following the minimum wage hike is gradually increasing, and combined pressure for price increases remains high.

帝国データバンクが国内の主な食品メーカー195社を対象に行った調査によりますと、今月、値上げされる食品は1392品目で、5か月ぶりに1000品目を超えました。
品目別では大手各社が一斉に値上げした冷凍食品を中心に「加工食品」が757品目と最も多く全体の半数以上を占めました。また、アイスやチョコレート製品などの「菓子」は169品目、ウイスキーやコーヒー飲料などの「酒類・飲料」は135品目が値上げされました。
調査会社では値上げの背景に異常気象などに伴う原材料高や物流費や包装資材にかかる費用の増加などがあるとしています。
一方、ことし1月から11月までに値上げされたり、値上げが予定されたりしている食品は、去年の同じ時期のおよそ4割に当たる1万1872品目となっています。
こうした状況について調査会社では、去年に比べて値上げの勢いは弱まっているものの、最低賃金の引き上げに伴う人件費の増加などを背景とした値上げの割合が徐々に増えるなど、複合的な値上げ圧力は高止まりした状態だと指摘しています。
