6/4 A king , a priest , a rich man

書くことがない、そんな日もあるだろう。

想像してみる。

自分が職業作家だったら？職業ライターだったら？

今日は書くことが無いので明日にしようとできるだろうか（今日〆切だったどうするんだ？）、趣味で書く私の様な人間は気楽というものだし、本業があって良かったということだ。

今日はひとつ、面白い謎掛けをご紹介します。

In a room sit three great men, a king, a priest, a rich man with his gold. Between them stands a sellsword, a little man of common birth and no great mind. Each of the great ones bids him slay the other two. 'Do it,' says the king, 'for I am your lawful ruler.' 'Do it,' says the priest, 'for I command you in the names of the gods.' 'Do it,' says the rich man, 'and all this gold shall be yours.'  So tell me ー who lives and who dies?  

これは米国のテレビドラマGame of Thrones "A CLASH OF KINGS"で宦官ヴァリスがラニスター家のティリオンに投げ掛ける謎掛けです。

物語の中でも語られますが、これに答えはありません。むしろ多様な答えが存在します。そもそも、sellsword（つまり傭兵）が出す答えに依存する訳です。やり取りはこう続きます。

"He has neither crown nor gold nor favor of the gods, only a piece of pointed steel." 
"That piece of steel is the power of life and death."
"Just so ... yet if it is the swordsmen who rules us in truth, why do we pretend   our kings hold the power?"

唯一武力を持つ傭兵が生死を握っているなら、何故王様が権力を持っているかのように振舞わねばならないのか？深い、、、

ドラマはとても盛り上がって完結しました。Season８まであります！是非、皆さん観てみてください！
