pookiesの動画を英訳に挑戦　①　【Teach a genius monkey a vacation】天才猿にバカンスを教えた

英語字幕を作るって大変ですね

私の英語力は子どもの頃で止まっています。英語の勉強がてら、Pookiesの動画が世界でもっとみられたらよいなと思い、翻訳を試みることにしました。英語の翻訳アプリを使用しています。
英語字幕がつくようになったら止めます！というか、続かない気がします。
要するに、言葉の翻訳だけでなく、お猿のカイ君がやっていることの英語の説明がいるんですよね。トレーナーのクロダさんも口で結構カイくんの行動を説明しているのですが、同じ言葉でも別のニュアンスがあるような場合もあり、たった8分の動画で数時間の労力がかかります。それを10年分のYouTube動画にと考えたらとんでもないことです。本当にやるなら、英語力がある人が、10年分のこれまでの動画を見て、お決まりのフレーズにピッタリの英語とか見つけないといけません。
この動画を選んだのは、クロダさんとカイくんのやり取りが伝わりやすいと思ったからでした。
日本のトレーナーが猿にどうやってものを教えるかということがこの動画を見ればわかります。
全ての動画で共通してクロダさんが使っているような言葉が頻繁に出てきます。
けれども、このチャンネルの動画でこれを初めて見る海外の人がクロダさんとニホンザルのカイくんの関係をすぐ理解するのは難しいと思ってしまいました。
私たち日本人には微笑ましく面白く見られる場面も、日本猿を知らない人にはまるで人間がヒトを使役しているように見えるかもしれません。
彼らは日々こうやって遊んでいるんだということをどうやって伝えたら良いのでしょうか。
これが猿にとって厳しいトレーニングでないことは、おそらくすべての人が理解できると思うのですが、カイくんが繋がれなくても逃げ出さず、厳しくしつけなくても人間の意図が理解できるのだということまでは分からないかもしれません。
とはいえ、このチャンネルを尊敬しているので、いつか世界にカイくんの素晴らしさが伝わってほしいです。
出来れば早くこのチャンネルに英語字幕がつきますように。

You can see how Japanese trainers teach monkeys by watching this video. In this video, words that Mr. Kuroda uses in common in all videos frequently appear. However, when I saw this for the first time in the video on this channel, I found it difficult for foreigners to immediately understand the relationship between Kuroda and Kai-kun, the monkey. The scenes that are smiley and interesting to us Japanese may seem like humans are using humans to those who do not know Japanese monkeys. How can I tell people overseas that they are playing this way every day?
I think everyone can understand that this is not a rigorous training for monkeys, but even if Kai-kun is not connected, he will not run away, and even if he is not disciplined, he can understand human intentions. You may not know. However, I respect this channel, so I hope that one day the world will know how wonderful Kai-kun is. I hope this channel will have English subtitles as soon as possible.》

誤訳は誤解を生みそうです。

疲れました。映画の翻訳をしている人を尊敬します。小説の翻訳も本当にありがたいことですね。このニュアンスをどうやって伝えるんだ？ということばかりです。アプリを使ってもそうなのに、ありあまる語彙力を持っている人はここをどうやって伝えようかとかいろいろとさらに表現に悩むのでしょうね。

口で言っていることをそのまま俗語で英訳しても誤解を生みそうです。

10年分の動画に英語字幕は無理だと思うので、ショート動画だけ誤解のない範囲でお願いしたいです。YouTubeの字幕はどういう仕組みなんですかね。日本語原稿を入力したら、自動で英訳されるのでしょうか。
分かりませんが、それならそれで人間が読み直さないと誤解を生むかもしれず、危険です。

今後カイくんに期待するのは、カイくんルーちゃんの兄弟対決です。
①二足歩行かけっこ
②足でジャンケンぐりこ
みたいなものが見たいですね。
