【ChatGPTが挑む】外大のおもしろい課題
私は現在、東京外国語大学で英語を専攻しています。
外大はかなり課題が多いのですが、おもろしい（interestingな）課題に出会うこともあります。
そこで、最近話題になっているChatGPTに、外大のユニークな課題に挑んでもらいました。

では、Creative Writingの授業で出されたおもしろい課題をご紹介します。
ある夫婦が朝食をとる場面を300〜500語の英語で書きなさい。その夫婦は最近たった１人の子どもを亡くしたばかりである。読者に夫婦の状況を明確に伝えなさい。（ただし、子どもが亡くなったことをそのまま伝えるのではなく、暗に示すこと。）登場人物それぞれの感情も示しなさい。（ただし、感情そのものを名指しするのではなく、暗に示すこと。）
ChatGPTが作成したストーリーがこちらです。
A married couple sits quietly at the kitchen table, each lost in thought as they slowly sip their coffee. The husband stares blankly out the window, while the wife methodically cuts her toast into small, neat squares. The atmosphere in the room is heavy, weighed down by an unspoken sadness.
As they eat, their movements are slow and deliberate, as if each action is a conscious effort. The memories of happier times are ever-present, tainting the couple's current reality with a bittersweet ache.
As they finish their breakfast, the couple moves through their morning routine with the same slow, deliberate movements. They wash the dishes, and the wife tidies up the kitchen, while the husband reads the newspaper. They move around each other, barely touching, as if they are afraid to disturb the fragile peace they have found.
Finally, they embrace each other, holding on tightly as if they are afraid to let go. The wife buries her face in her husband's shoulder, and he strokes her hair, comforting her in silence. They stand like this for a long moment, their grief and love entwined, before finally breaking apart.
As they go about their day, the couple continues to carry the weight of their loss, but they do so together, supporting each other through their shared pain. Despite the emptiness they feel, they know they must face the future, side by side, as they navigate their way through their new reality.

読んでいてのめり込むようなおもしろさや意外性はあまりないかもしれませんが、「子ども」や「死」に全く言及することなく「子どもの死」をほのめかす表現の幅には感服します。
私のお気に入りは、
the wife's gaze lingers on a family photo on the wall
という部分です。
子どもが亡くなっていると思うと、家族写真をながめている奥さんの複雑な気持ちが伝わってきます。
