アンセルムスによる神の存在証明と十戒に関するメモ

アンセルムスによる神の存在証明における神の定義(a being than which no greater can be conceived)は、おおまかに、First Commandment=十戒の1つ目(Thou shalt have no other gods before me)の解釈であると気付いた。

まず、haveをconceive、godをgreatest beingとすると、十戒の1つ目は、「You shall not conceive other greatest beings than me」となる。さらに変形すると、「I am a greatest being other greatest beings than which shall not be conceived」となる。

「a greatest being other greatest beings than which shall not be conceived」は、「考えられてはならない」ものが「考えられえない」ものであるなら、「a being than which no greater can be conceived」という、アンセルムスの定義による神にあてはまる。

ただし、「a being than which no greater can be conceived」が2つ存在しうる一方で、「a greatest being other greatest beings than which shall not be conceived」は、2つ存在すると考えられてはならなず、唯一である。なぜならそれぞれとは別のgreatest beingが考えられてはならないからである。

下の論文では、十戒の1つ目における神の唯一性を論じたが、存在の必然性も論じうるとわかった。
