Day 3_MBA Journey_Growth Mindset & Leadership Behavior

I have spent most of my day today just working on my pre-assignment in order to have the good productive week. Let me output my learnings here to deepen my understands.

Class 1_Developing Leadership Skills Through Growth Mindset

We might underestimate the power of our mindset. It is merely a belief and it can actually have a profound effect on our life. However, in order to engrave and fully utilize this mindset, you need to be aware that there are two different type of mindset.

Fixed Mindset: believing their talents are innate gifts.

Growth Mindset: believing that your basic qualities are things you can cultivate through your effort.

While people with fixed mindset tend to avoid challenges, give up easily and see effort as fruitless or worse, which result in high probability in failures, people with growth mindset tent to embrace challenges, see effort as path to mastery and persist in the face of challenges, which result in high probability in achievement.

When we would like to engrave this growth mindset in to others, other than knowing about the two mindsets, we need to provide praises wisely. If we provide praise based on Talent, they become vulnerable. However, if we give praise on their process, hard work and perseverance, they will stick to challenge.

That's being said, we all want to have Growth Mindset constantly. However, there are three common misconceptions of growth mindset that prevent from implementation.

1. I already have it, and I always have - you will always have mixture of two mindsets.

2. A growth mindset is just about praising and rewarding effort - outcomes matter.

3. Just espouse a growth mindset, and good things will happen - there need to be actions along with policies to execute and implement.

Especially, it is not easy to attain because we all have our own fixed-mindset Triggers by facing challenges, criticism, poorly compared with others and end up in falling into insecurity or defensiveness.

In order to remain in a Growth Zone continuously, we need to identify and work with fixed-mindset triggers when it pop up in our head.
