「金閣寺」

最初に読んだのは浪人生の頃で、それから多分、２回は読んでると思う三島由紀夫の代表作。

市川雷蔵主演の映画「炎上」も、ポール・シュレイダー監督の「Mishima 」他も鑑賞済みだ。

解説や評論も数多くあるので、今更だけど、やっぱり、これでもかと言葉を駆使した三島独特の美に対する表現は、震えるほど素晴らしいね。

金閣寺の崇高な美に畏敬の念を持ってた“吃り”の障害を持つ青年・溝口が、金閣寺の僧となって、身内・老師・友達他、学校での日常や社会の現実に流されて疲弊、逃げるように金閣寺の美に心を許すが、ついには金閣寺の揺るぎない美に嫉妬して、心中する決意に至った物語。

津山事件の都井睦雄を思い出した。岡山・津山の寒村で、神童とまで言われた青年が、結核に冒されたことを機に孤立するようになって、ついには狂気に陥って村人30人余りを惨殺した事件。

“童貞”青年の純粋や思い込み、行動は、いつの時代も社会や規範を優に超えて昇華するものだ。その背景に、日本的美学が加われば、表現においては何をやっても許されて、止まるところを知らないだろうと思う。
もし三島が津山事件を小説にしたらどう表現したろう？

It reminded me of Mutsuo Toi in the Tsuyama Incident. In the cold village of Tsuyama, Okayama, a young man who was said to be a child prodigy became isolated when he was infected with tuberculosis.

The innocence, preconceptions, and behavior of a virgin youth always transcend society and norms and sublimate. He thinks he will never stop.
If Mishima made a novel about the Tsuyama Incident, how would he express it?
