あの頃、タイガーマスクがいた
私が小学生のころ住んでいた地域では、テレビの民放は二つしかなかった。
そんなところでも、プロレス放送があって、時々見ていたのだが、タイガーマスクという、虎のマスクをかぶったレスラーが現れた時は驚いた。
ダイナマイト・キッドや小林邦昭など、彼と戦った人たちの名前も憶えている。
「タイガーマスク」は元々、『少年マガジン』に連載された漫画だった。
漫画の方はあまり読む機会がなかったが、アニメの「タイガーマスク」は、
最初の放送も、その後の再放送も観た。
このアニメの主題歌はyoutubeで聴くことができる。
最初と最後の主題歌のコントラストが印象的だ。
アニメの放送が終わったあとも、漫画の連載はしばらく続いた。
たまたま、書店で『少年マガジン』を見たら、この雑誌の真ん中あたりに、「タイガーマスク」の最終回が載っていた。
ヒットした漫画の最終回だというのに、地味な扱いだなあと思ったものだ。
漫画は、アニメと全く違う最終回だった。
（伊達）直人は車にひかれそうになった子供をかばって死亡した。最後の力を振り絞って所持していた虎の覆面を近くの川へ投げ捨てたため、伊達直人の事故死とタイガーマスクの失踪はむすびつけて考えられることはなかった。（中略）
「キザにいちゃん・伊達直人としては死亡したが、子供達の心の中にヒーローとして生き続けたタイガーマスク」という原作の最終回に対し、アニメ版は「伊達直人としては生存したが、皆のヒーロー・タイガーマスクとしては死ぬ」という、奇しくも対照的な最終回となった。
近くの川というよりは、側溝か用水路だったと思うが、それは些細なことだ。
漫画原作とアニメとで、結末が大いに異なる作品には、白土三平の「サスケ」もあるが、それについては別の機会に書こう。
この文中にある、「キザ」と言う言葉は、最近ほとんど聞くことが無い。
この言葉で表現できそうな人は、実在であれ、フィクションであれ、見当たらない。かつては、その言葉にふさわしい人が実在したのだろうか、とさえ思ってしまう。
また、「伊達」という名字の読み方をこれで知った人もいたと思う。
日本語を学ぶ外国人にとっても、日本語の名前の読み方は難しいだろう。
ところで、最近の漫画やライトノベルには、「転生もの」というジャンルがある。
事故などで死亡した後、別世界に転生してヒーローになるという筋書きだが、書き手の意欲を掻き立てるのか、需要が多いのか、呆れるほど様々な作品が出ている。
交通事故で死んだ伊達直人は、格好の素材だと思うが、検索しても見当たらない。原作者の梶原一騎が故人であるからかもしれない。
その代わり、現実世界で伊達直人を名乗ってランドセルを子どもに贈った人はいた。
そしてまた、格闘技の世界では、この記事のように、「タイガーマスク」は襲名され続けている（タイトル写真も、この記事から引用）。

In the area where I lived when I was in elementary school, there were only two commercial TV stations. Even in such a place, there was a professional wrestling broadcast, and I watched it from time to time.
I was surprised when a wrestler wearing a tiger mask called Tiger Mask appeared. I remember the names of people who fought him, such as Dynamite Kid and Kuniaki Kobayashi.

Even after the anime ended, the manga continued for some time. By chance, when I saw "Shonen Magazine" at a bookstore, the final episode of "Tiger Mask" appeared in the middle of this magazine. Even though it was the final episode of a hit manga, I thought it was treated plainly.
The manga was a completely different ending from the anime.
(Date) Naoto died protecting a child who was about to be hit by a car. With the last of his strength, he threw the tiger mask he was carrying into a nearby river, so there was no connection between the accidental death of Naoto Date and the disappearance of Tiger Mask. (Omitted)
It was the final episode of the original work, ``Tiger Mask, who died as Kiza-nii-chan and Naoto Date, but continued to live as a hero in the hearts of children''. On the other hand, the anime version has a strangely contrasting final episode, "Naoto Date survived, but Tiger Mask, everyone's hero, died."
I think it was a gutter or irrigation ditch rather than a nearby river, but that's a minor point.
There is also Sanpei Shirato's "Sasuke", which has a very different ending between the original manga and the anime, but I'll write about that on another occasion.
The word "kiza" in this sentence is rarely heard these days. I can't find anyone, real or fictional, who could be described by these words. In the past, I even wondered if there really was a person worthy of those words.
Also, I think some people learned how to read the last name "Date" from this. Even for foreigners learning Japanese, reading Japanese names can be difficult.
By the way, recent manga and light novels have a genre called "reincarnation". After he/she dies in an accident, he/she reincarnates in another world and becomes a hero.
I think Naoto Date, who died in a traffic accident, would be a good material, but I can't find it even if I search. It may be because the original author Kajiwara Ikki is deceased.
Instead, in the real world, there were people who gave school bags to poor children under the name Naoto Date.
Also, in the world of martial arts, as in this article, "Tiger Mask" continues to be named (the title photo is also quoted from this article).
