DMF-DMA / dimethylaminomethylation

A solution of 1-[3-(4-benzoyl-2-methyl-piperazin-1-sulfonyl)-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]pyridin-7-yl]-ethanone (0.78 g, 1.8 mmol) and dimethylformamide dimetylacetal (6.3 mL) in anhydrous DMF (6.5 mL) was stirred at 55-60 °C for 6 h (TLC-monitoring, CHCl3/ MeOH 9:1) and evaporated to give crude 1-[3-(4-benzoyl-2-methylpiperazine-1-sulfonyl)-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]pyridin-7-yl]-3-dimethylamino-propenone (quantitative yield), which was used for the next step without additional purification.
