Episode43 ; Cheese

After dinner, we watched down a wonderful night view from Victoria Peak. The lights make Hong Kong island a jewel box. The amazing landscape. Speaking of jewellery, a Chinese guide told us that those days, plenty of jewellery were being smuggled via Hong Kong to Amsterdam. The same night, we flew to Amsterdam, perhaps together with precious stones in our plane.

At six o’clock in the morning, we arrived at Schipole Airport. Then, we went straight to Zaanse Schans by bus. It was just eight o’clock when we arrived there. The village was still closed. A thick fog prevented us from looking around. Soon, a dull sunshine descended through greyish air, and gradually cleared it off. Windmills like toys appeared. The photogenic view gave an impression of the good old days of Netherland. Nowadays there are just 12 windmills, a museum, cheese and craft shops for tourists.

I love cheese. But, unfortunately, it is expensive in Japan. There are also few types available. So, I was really excited when I found many kind of cheese at the shop. I bought various cheeses ; Goat, Edam, herb and garlic, smoke and Gouda by calculating their wight so as not to overload in my luggage.

I returned home with my baggage crammed with cheese and expectations. I arranged them on a sheet on Tatami to choose which I would start with. Suddenly, my cat got up from his bed and came to me. He sniffed around cheese. He chose the Smoked to eat. I rearranged them. He walked around them and picked the same, again. He liked very much something smoky. So, I promises to give him a piece of his favourite.

第43話　チーズの話

夕食の後、私たちはヴィクトリアピークから美しい夜景を見下ろしていた。街の光で香港島は宝石箱のようだった。実に素晴らしい眺めだ。

宝石といえば、中国人のガイドさんが、近ごろ多くの宝石が香港経由でアムステルダムに密輸されていると話していた。同日の夜、私たちはアムステルダムへ飛んだ。たぶん飛行機の中に積みこまれた宝石たちとともに。
