あなたは、本を買うとき、新品を買いますか？中古を買いますか？

私は、お金があまりないので、辞書や本当に好きな本、何度も読み返す必要がある本以外は中古で済ませています。

そして、最近までは中古の本でもなるべく書き込みのない本を購入するようにしていました。(Amazonでいうと、「非常にいい」や「いい」ですね笑)

でも、先日ある数学の本を中古で買ったら、中に思いっきり書き込みがありました。最初はしまった！と思ったわけですが、読み進めていくと面白いことに気がつきました。私の前にその本を読んだ方の書き込みが私の理解を助けてくれるのです。

私の理解と前の人の考え方は同じか？違うならどう違うのか？なぜ前の人はその箇所にアンダーラインを引いたり、メモを取ったりしたのか？そもそも私や前の人の理解は正しいのか？と言ったことを考えながら読み進めていくうちに、自分の思考が深まって、よく理解できるようになりました。

When you buy a book, do you buy a new one or a used one?

I don't have much money, so I buy second-hand books except for dictionaries, books I really like, and books I need to read over and over again.

And until recently, I used to buy second-hand books without someone's writing. (In Amazon, it's "very good" or "good" lol)

However, when I bought a second-hand math book the other day, there was a lot of writing inside. At first I thought, “oops!”, but as I read on, I found it interesting. The notes of the person who read the book before me helped me to understand the material.

“Do the previous person and I have the same way of thinking? If not, how is it different? Why did the previous person underline or take notes at that point? Is our way of thinking even correct in the first place?” As I read while thinking about the above, my thoughts deepened and I became able to understand better.

From now on, if I find someone's writing in a book, I will be excited. Why don't you read used books that have writing? It’s a two-birds-with-one-stone recommendation that is cheap and deepens learning.
