信念というのは、たとえ先が見えない状況であっても、階段を登る第一歩を踏み出すこと。

困難ながらそのとおり。「先が見えない状況であっても」というのが信念の信念たる所以。先が見えている状況でなら誰も迷うことはないが、それは信念とは言わない。

Difficult as it is, it is true. That’s why belief is belief; the key phrase here is “even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” No one would be lost in a situation where the future is clear, but that is never a belief.
