on "Argumentum Ornithologicum"*

I woke up from a dream

In the dream, a morning sparrow

was trying to count the clouds

using a unary system.

It counted from 1 to 10 the uncertain

number of "One"-s.

But when I looked up,

and the sky was not blue,

I knew there was another number--

(one more fold, one more crease)

stacked above like a private joke.

and I saw that morning sparrow

counting the number of clouds

in a dream

the number of digitals or claws that they possess I cannot see---

properly, but perhaps not because they were maimed

nor due to the truth that they must've moved

it is because I saw a woman sitting there,

her head asleep in the very palm of her hand.

After all, the thing called sky

is only one

of many places on earth.

And, this is "isn't that so?"

夢の中で朝の雀が

雲の数を数えようとしていた

一進法を使って。

1から10まで数えて、

不確かな「一」の数。

けれどもふと見上げると、

空は青くなく、
