英語日記014：UoPeopleについて

この記事を書いているのが2020年5月20日。
あと10日ほどで今月も終わりになるわけですが、英語日記は何本書けるかしら。

1 About the University of the People

Two months ago, I decided to enter the University of the People(UoPeople). The UoPeople is known as a tuition-free school. We can choose from four kinds of degree programs; 

1 Business Administration
2 Computer Science
3 Health Science
4 Education

I will be a student of the Master of Education(M.Ed). Through this program, I can learn how to educate children in schools accredited by International Baccalaureate(IB). The IB is the name of a global-spread education system developed in Switzerland. Students who graduated from the IB diploma course able to apply to universities all over the world. In Japan, there are only about 40 schools accredited while there are about 3500 in the world.

My aim in the M.Ed course is not to be a teacher. As the owner of a private tutoring school, I want to learn the theoretical background of education and provide a better place for students to learn.

嬉しいような気もするが、本当にこれで正しいという気もしない…。

4 おわりに

翻訳ソフトが発達してしまった今、私たちにとっての語学力とはボキャブや文法ではなく、いかに効果的に伝えるかという側面にスポットがあたるような気がしてきています。

僕は今、UoPeopleで学ぶために英語を復習しているわけですが、そこで使われるのは殆ど文字ベースなので、writing skillを中心に練習しています。そうすると、文を作ることは翻訳ソフトでそれなりにできてしまう反面、パラグラフを作るのはとても難しいと感じます。

UoPeopleの最初の授業はEnglish Compositionということなので、そこでちゃんとした「書き方」を学ばせてもらいたいと思っています。
