■サンフランシスコ散歩 Working■

　シリコンバレーから22kmぐらいに位置するサンフランシスコタウンです。日本の距離感覚でいうならば、東京駅と調布くらいです。またサンフランシスコは毎朝、多くの仕事人をシリコンバレーに送っている人材の供給地です。サンフランシスコのセンタータウンには多くの本社機能があつまる超高層のビル群や下町、そしてイタリア系の街やチャイナタウン、そしてLGBTの街や伝統的なビクトリア様式の家々が多くある坂の景色が広がります。また、シリコンバレーの成長とともに、ロサンゼルスのオレンジカウンティと同じくらい有名な高級住宅地などもできました。

　San Francisco, located about 22 kilometers from Silicon Valley, is same the distance from Tokyo Station to Chofu in Japan. It serves as a supplier, send numerous workers to Silicon Valley every morning. The city center of San Francisco boasts a skyline filled with skyscrapers housing many corporate headquarters, alongside historic downtown areas, Italian neighborhoods, Chinatown, the LGBT district, and hillsides lined with traditional Victorian-style homes. With the growth of Silicon Valley, areas as renowned as Orange County in Los Angeles have emerged, featuring upscale residential neighborhoods.

　北極圏からの寒流が流れ込むサンフランシスコ湾は常に強い風が吹き、入江の深度が深くコンテナの離着がしやすいです。また、その寒流がもたらす良質な漁場があります。強風でさらに冷たい風は夏でも気温の上昇を防ぎ、逆に冬場は南から暖かな風が来るため、そこまで気温が下がりません。その良質な気候に目を付けたアメリカ原住民の多くの部族がサンフランシスコ半島に住んでいました。

　The San Francisco Bay, influenced by cold currents from the Arctic Circle, is perpetually swept by strong winds. Its deep inlets facilitate the docking and undocking of container ships. Additionally, these cold currents create rich fishing grounds. The strong and chilly winds help to keep temperatures from rising too high in the summer, while in the winter, warmer winds from the south prevent temperatures from dropping too low. Many Native American tribes settled on the San Francisco Peninsula, attracted by its favorable climate.

　その後、街は発展し、ゴールドラッシュ前に到達した白人の人たちが聖フランシスコにちなんで、サンフランシスコと命名しました。42個の丘があるサンフランシスコの交通はMUNIというトラムとバス、地下鉄・鉄道のBART、そしてケーブルカーになります。サンフランシスコ湾を見下ろす高台の丘の一つに、グレースカテドラル大聖堂が建っております。
日本とサンフランシスコの関わりは明治までさかのぼります。また良質な港町であったサンフランシスコと日本は昔から貿易をしており、日本船の遠洋漁業の寄港地でした。その後、第二次世界大戦時は日本人の抑留地としても有名です。ですから、日本人に対しての差別がサンフランシスコではまだ少しあります。

　After that, the town developed, and Whites who arrived from the East Coast before the Gold Rush named it San Francisco, after Saint Francis. San Francisco, with its 42 hills, has a transportation system consisting of the MUNI trams and buses, the BART subway and railway, and cable cars. One of the hills overlooking San Francisco Bay is home to the Grace Cathedral. The relationship between Japan and San Francisco dates back to the Meiji era. San Francisco , a high-quality port town has been trading with Japan since ancient times and served as a port of call for Japan’s pelagic fishing fleet. Later, during World War Ⅱ, it became known as a site for the internment of Japanese people. As a result, there is still a slight presence of discrimination against Japanese people in San Francisco.

■サンフランシスコ下町再開発キックオフ■

　ちょうど、2023年の夏、私がサンフランシスコに滞在した時、アメリカ原住民の居留地の見直しと下町の再開発のキックオフがありました。幸運にしてそのキックオフの公聴会に2023年6月29日参加してきました。サンフランシスコ市のコンサルタントの女性が私の論文を見て参考にしてくれたとの話を聞きうれしかったです。その論文は、日本の東京の下町の共同体を維持しながら再開発する手法を書きました。この公聴会にはテンダーロイン地区の代表として長らく、ホームレスを減らす事や街の貧困層の人たちのケアとサポートをしてきた黒人の代表の人も参加しておりました。

　During the summer of 2023, while I was staying in San Francisco, a kickoff meeting was held to discuss the redevelopment of downtown and the reassessment of Native American settlements. That called ‘sunshine plan’. Fortunately, I attend this kickoff meeting on June 29, 2023. It was gratifying to hear that a consultant from the City of San Francisco had referred to and reviewed my report. My report discussed methods for redeveloping downtown Tokyo while preserving its community. At the public hearing, there was also a representative from the Tenderloin district who has long been involved in reducing homelessness and providing care and support for the city's impoverished residents.

■サンフランシスコセンタータウンの地下水位の変化■

いろいろな事をサンフランシスコでは現地の人と話をしていましたが、2024年、サンフランシスコ市長は税制改革と教育改革を推し進めると話をしていました。またセンターシティでは地下水位の変動なども見られます。その事柄を受けて、不動産の価値もだいぶ、変動すると思います。また、一度サンフランシスコに行きたいと思っています。

I had various discussions with the locals in San Francisco, and I learned that in 2024, the Mayor of San Francisco plans to push forward with tax and education reforms. Additionally, there have been fluctuations in the groundwater levels in the city center. These changes are likely to significantly affect real estate values. I am also considering visiting San Francisco again.
