私は元気のよい子供だった。いつも幼稚園に子どもたちの中心にいるような子供だった。私が砂場にいこうというと、みんなどどっと私とともに移動し、私がアッカン探偵しようというと、またみんなでどっとその遊びをはじめる。そんな子供だったから、小学校にはいると、一年生のときから、ずうっとクラス委員だった。私は少しの迷いもなく、何かそれが自然に与えられた自分の仕事だと思い、溌剌としてその役割を担っていた。そんな私がある時期から、まるで百八十度転回したように、仲間からはじきだされ、一人ぼっちになり、自分のなかにひきこもり、一人うじうじと苦しむ暗い性格の子供に変ってしまったのだ。それはある出来事からだった。
私の町は、その頃まだ下水道の施設が完備されていなくて、し尿汲み取りのバキュームカーが町を走りまわっていた。私のクラスに洋子という女の子がいたが、彼女の父親がその仕事をしているのだった。そのためか、残酷な子供たちは、彼女をいつも臭い臭いといっていじめるのだった。私はそんな彼女をいつもかばっていた。あるときなど彼女を臭いといった男の子を、私たちの輸のなかにつれてくると、
「あんた、どうして臭いなんていうの。そんなこといっていいと思うの」
と吊し上げて、その男の子を泣かしてしまったぐらいだった。仲間が悲しい思いをするのを黙ってみていられなかったのだ。私は一年生のときからいつもクラス委員だった。いじめなどないクラスをつくろうという使命感といったものが、私のなかに深く根を張っていたからかもしれなかった。
I was a cheerful child. He was a child who was always in the center of the children in kindergarten. When I say let's go to the sandbox, everyone moves with me. I was such a child, so when I entered elementary school, I was a class representative all the time from the first grade. Without the slightest hesitation, I felt that it was my job that was naturally given to me, and I enthusiastically took on that role. From that point on, I was kicked out by my peers, left alone, withdrawn into myself, and turned into a child with a dark personality who was suffering alone. It was from an incident.
My town didn't have a sewage system at that time, so there were vacuum trucks running around the town to collect night soil. There was a girl named Yoko in my class, and her father had that job. Maybe that's why her cruel children always teased her for stinking. I was always protecting her. One time, when a boy who said she smelled badly was brought into our store,
"You, why do you say it stinks? I think it's okay to say that."
I hoisted him up and made the boy cry. He couldn't stand to see his companions sad. Ever since I was in first grade, I have always been a class representative. Perhaps it was because I had a deep-rooted sense of mission to create a class free from bullying.
