前回熱海に行ったときから既に9年もの歳月が経っていた。あの時は高校時代の友達と久しぶりに集まる約束をして念願の宿泊旅行だった。

全員社会人になってから別々の業種で活躍し、住んでいるところもバラバラの状態であったが、大人になった僕らは何のしがらみもなく仕事を抜きにしてただただ楽しむためだけに集まった。楽しくないわけがない。

今回は日帰り旅行だったが、天気もとても良く、桜がちょうどよい感じに満開になっていた。

熱海駅前

前回は夏だったこともあり友達と海水浴場で遊んだり、夜はスーパーで男気じゃんけんをしたりした。確かあの時結局自分が勝ってしまったはずだった、けれど久しぶりに集まる友達と社会人になって給料をもらうようになり金銭的にも学生時代と比べ余裕が出て来たため、みんなのためにご馳走できるのが心から嬉しく感じられたのが面白い。

朝早くから家を出て電車で1時間20分くらいで熱海駅に着いた。この時午前10時半くらい。
最初に駅の目の前にあった足湯で癒される。
仲見世通りをぶらぶら見ながら周り雰囲気を楽しんだ。賑わいに違いがあれど小樽にある商店街の雰囲気を思い出したりしたのが懐かしい。

ビーチ方面に向かいながら少し歩いたのとこれからの一日に備えて最初に銀座通りにある抹茶ブリュレのクレープでカロリーを摂取。
そのまま道路を下に降りてすぐビーチに到着。ヨットがいくつも並んでいてマリーナの景色は気分が高揚する。とても優雅な場所に来た感覚にさせてくれる。
ここで仕事したら気持ちよいだろうなと思うが日差しがあるためPC画面もスマホも見れないなとも思った。

少し休んでから何処に行こうか考えてビーチから見つけた山の上にある熱海城に行くことにした。山の上まではロープウェイがある。
後楽園行バスに乗り200円で後楽園につき目の前のチケット売り場でそのままロープウエイのチケットを購入。大人往復700円。

日本一短いロープウェイとのことで搭乗は3分程度。景色が綺麗。
降りてすぐに青い海と空と町の絶景が迎えてくれる。遠くに見える山の上にはリゾートマンションのような建物がいくつもある。
バブル期に建てられた別荘は価格がほぼ落ちきっていて安くなっているから買いたいなという気持ちになる。(管理費と修繕積立金でかなり固定費が高いのは容赦しないといけない。)

ロープウェイの降車したところには秘宝館(18歳未満入場不可)があり、もの凄く知的好奇心?をくすぐられたが臨時休業のため叶わず。(また熱海を再訪する理由が一つ出来た。)
沢山の有名な芸能人の色紙が飾ってあった。

他にも、山の上というだけありスマホを立てかけてタイマー機能で撮影できる写真スポットがいたるところに準備されていておもてなしを感じることが出来る。

とにかく絶景が清々しい。絶景を見た直後に山頂のトイレで個室に入っていると、自分の身体がいま地上から遥か高く離れたところにあり、標高を感じることができたのは実に興味深い感覚だった。

その後少し足を延ばしてみるとすぐに熱海城が見えてくる。ここの満開の桜がとても映える。

ちょうど猿のショーをやっていて、猿が自分の背丈よりも高い木の柱を軽々と垂直飛びで乗り越える様は驚きを隠せなかった。
以前ネットの動画で猿が人間より素早くコンピュータ画面に映し出された大量の数字を一瞬で覚え、画面が消えた後にもどこにどの数字が映し出されていたかをタッチする実験を見て頭脳作業で動物の方が優秀だということに驚いたことがあったが、身体面の能力でも勝ち目がないのかと思わされてしまった。

猿のショーを見終えたら熱海城の見学に行くことにした。一瞬入場料(大人一人1100円)がかかるからスルーしようかという気持ちが頭に浮かんだが、ここで帰ったら次いつ来ることができるのかわからないから(なんせ前回来たのは9年前)絶対行ったほうがいいという決断をした。

結論としてこの判断は大正解。
お城の中は6階の展望台まであり、武士の世界を垣間見れる鎧や日本刀などが飾ってあった。
3階には春画展(18歳未満及びペット入場不可)がやっており葛飾北斎の描いた春画を見ることができる。

他にも無料でマッサージ機が使用出来たり、一番嬉しかったのが地下に備え付けのゲームセンターが全て無料だったこと。卓球台も貸し出しており、久しぶりにいい汗をかくことが出来た。

Nine years had already passed since my last visit to Atami. It was a long-awaited overnight trip to Atami at that time with my friends from high school.

We were all working in different industries and living in different places, but we had grown up and got together without any ties to work, just to have fun. How could we not have fun?

It was a day trip this time, but the weather was very nice and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom.

Last time, it was summer, so my friends and I went to the beach and played rock-paper-scissors at the supermarket at night. It was funny that I was so happy to be able to treat my friends and myself to a meal after a long absence, since we were now working and had more money to spare compared to when we were students.

I left home early in the morning and arrived at Atami station about 1 hour and 20 minutes by train. It was about 10:30 a.m. at that time.
The first thing I did was to take a bath in the footbath right in front of the station.
I enjoyed the atmosphere as I wandered around the Nakamise street. It reminded me of the atmosphere of the shopping street in Otaru, although the bustle was different.
I walked a bit toward the beach, and first I took in some calories with a green tea brûlée crepe on Ginza-dori in preparation for the day ahead.
We continued down the road and soon arrived at the beach. The view of the marina with several yachts lined up is uplifting. It makes me feel like I'm in a very elegant place.
I thought it would be nice to work here, but I also thought I couldn't look at my PC screen or phone because of the sunlight.
After a short rest, I thought about where to go and decided to go to Atami Castle, which is located on top of a mountain I found from the beach. There is a ropeway to the top of the mountain.
We took a bus bound for Korakuen, which cost 200 yen, and bought a ticket for the ropeway at the ticket booth in front of the bus stop. It cost 700 yen for an adult round trip.
The ropeway is said to be the shortest ropeway in Japan, and the ride takes about 3 minutes. The scenery is beautiful.
As soon as you get off the ropeway, you are greeted by a spectacular view of the blue sea, sky, and town. On top of the mountain in the distance are a number of buildings that look like resort condominiums.
I feel like buying a villa that was built during the bubble period because the price is almost down and it is cheaper. (You have to be aware about the fairly high fixed costs with the management fee and repair reserve fund.)
There is a museum of hidden treasures (no entry under 18 years old) at the end of the ropeway, which tickled my intellectual curiosity. Unfortunately it was temporally closed.
We will revisit Atami again. (I now have another reason to visit Atami again...).
There were many colored papers(autograph papers) of famous celebrities on the wall.
There are many other photo booths where you can take pictures with your smartphone on the timer function, which is a nice touch.
In any case, the spectacular view was refreshing. It was an interesting sensation to be in a private restroom at the top of the mountain right after seeing the spectacular view, and to be able to feel how far off the ground my body was and how high up I was.
A short walk later, I soon saw Atami Castle. The cherry blossoms here were in full bloom.
I was amazed to see the monkeys jumping over the taller-than-tall tree pillars with ease.
I had seen a video on the Internet showing a monkey memorizing a large number of numbers on a computer screen more quickly than humans, and even after the screen disappeared, the monkey was able to touch the screen to find which number was on the screen. I was made to think that even in physical ability there was no way to win.
After the monkey show, we decided to visit Atami Castle. For a moment, the thought of skipping it because of the admission fee (1,100 yen per adult) crossed my mind, but I decided that if I left here, I would never know when I would be able to come back again (after all, it had been nine years since my last visit), so I decided it was definitely better to go.
As it turned out, this decision was a good one.
Inside the castle, there is an observatory on the 6th floor, on the 1st floor there is an exhibition of armor and Japanese swords displayed to give us a glimpse into the world of the samurai.
On the third floor, there is a Shunga exhibition (no pets or visitors under 18 years old allowed) where visitors can see Shunga painted by Hokusai Katsushika.
There are also massage machines available free of charge, and the most exciting thing was that the game center in the basement was all free of charge. A ping-pong table was also available, and I was able to work up a good sweat for the first time in a while.
