Why are my poems so long?

Why are my poems so long?

The poems I wrote as a student

were short.

But the notebooks in which I wrote short ones

were buried somewhere 

during the unexpected demolition of my apartment.

I can't be sure 

if they were really short or not.

But I think 

they were probably short.
