飛天が「天女」と呼ばれるわけ Why Hiten is called "Tennyo"

寺院を訪れた際に、天井や障壁などでよく見かける「龍」や「鳳凰」、そして「飛天」の画。すべて架空のものとして伝わる守護神である。天上から仏を見守り称え、そして装飾的な役割をもつ存在として画かれている。
すべてが神秘的で美しい。龍の迫力、鳳凰の華麗さ、飛天の可憐さなどが人々の目をくぎ付けにする。

When you visit a temple, you often see "dragons", "phoenixes", and "hiten" on ceilings and barriers. It is a guardian deity that is transmitted as a fictitious thing. It is depicted as an entity that watches over and praises the Buddha from heaven and has a decorative role. Everything is mysterious and beautiful. The power of the dragon, the splendor of the phoenix, and the cuteness of the flying heavens catch people's eyes.

その中でも飛天は、可憐で、しなやかな姿で天上を舞い、音楽を奏で、花を撒き、香を薫じて仏をたたえる天人で、女性的な姿であらわされているので天女とも呼ばれている。

Among them, Hiten is a celestial maiden who dances in the heavens in a pretty and supple figure, plays music, sprinkles flowers, and praises the Buddha with incense.
