伝統を受け継ぐ流儀 「刺繍打敷の技」 Traditional style "embroidery technique"

先日、京都へ行った折に、久しぶりに刺繍打敷の工房「和光舎」の三条店に立ち寄った。
以前、紹介したことのある京都の刺繍工房である。全国でも珍しい刺繍専門の修復事業を手掛けている。工房は年間約100枚以上の修復依頼があり、100年、200年前に作られた古い刺繍を中心に修理修復作業を行っている。

The other day, when I went to Kyoto, I stopped by the Sanjo store of the embroidery workshop "Wakosha" for the first time in a long time. It is an embroidery workshop in Kyoto that I have introduced before. The Wakosha is engaged in a restoration project specializing in embroidery, which is rare in Japan. The workshop receives more than 100 repair requests a year, and repairs and repairs mainly old embroidery made 100 or 200 years ago.

先日伺ったときは、ある寺院の本堂に掛けてあった孔雀の刺繡入りの敷物を修復中だった。この敷物(写真)は120年ぶりの修復ということだった。孔雀が羽を広げた刺繍もの。孔雀の本体や羽の部分で修復が必要なところは、その場の色に併せ新しい絹糸(各色)でひと針ひと針手刺し補正していく。そのまま使える部分は切り取り補修し、その部分を重ねつなぎ合わせていく気の遠くなる作業である。

When I visited the other day, I was repairing the peacock embroidery covering that was hung in the main hall of a temple. This rug (pictured) was said to have been restored for the first time in 120 years. An embroidered peacock with its wings spread. If the peacock's body or wings need to be repaired, it will be hand-stitched and corrected with new silk thread (each color) according to the color of the place. The part that can be used as it is is cut and repaired, and it is a daunting task to join the parts together.

平場で置かれてあるのを見るだけでも、その迫力はすごい。日本の絹糸を使った職人技の妙技としか言いようがない。むかしのモノを残し伝えていくには職人の技と同様に、当時のその刺繍情報をしっかり理解することが肝心。それをベースに伝え継ぐ熱い想いをもって臨まなれれば、これから100年、200年、それ以上の年月に耐えるモノを作ることはできない。それが伝統を受け継ぎ活躍している方々の仕事の流儀に違いない。

The power is amazing just to see it placed on the flat ground. It can only be said to be a feat of craftsmanship using Japanese silk thread. As with the craftsmanship, it is important to understand the embroidery information at that time in order to preserve and convey the old things. If we can approach with the passion to pass on that as a base, we will not be able to make things that can withstand the next 100, 200, or more years. It must be the work style of those who have inherited the tradition and are active.
