イギリス生活21週目ふりかえり
夏のロンドンが好きだ。
土曜から月曜にかけては、ノッティングヒルという場所でカーニバルもあり、賑やかな季節となっている。

1週間のスケジュール

土曜の天気は雨。
本当は外出しようと思っていたが、かなり強い雨だったため、自宅で以下の記事を作成したり、オンラインの研修を進めたりして過ごした。
オンライン研修は自分のペースで取り組めるものの、中々ヘビーなテーマもあり、英語の専門用語も登場するため時間がかかる。
日曜日は主に終日仕事。
今の仕事を始めてから約3週間が経過し、仕事のコツも掴めてきた。その経験を元に、社内の研修プログラムと育成のフローを作っていくのが直近のタスクだ。
すぐに取り掛かれるところだと、例えば現在の業務の生産性をもっと上げられると感じている。
個人的には、同じ時間でより多くのことをこなせた方が楽しいし、成長実感を感じられて嬉しいタイプなのだが、全員が全員そういうわけでもない。
生産性を上げたら、同じ給与でより沢山のことをしなければならないと思う人もいる。人の価値観はそれぞれなので、そこに関してどうこう言うつもりはない。
ただし、企業である以上、売上を上げることはどうしても付随する。
生産性を上げて、働く人も充実感を感じられ、会社やお客さんにとっても良いというサイクルができれば理想だなとは思う。
特にイギリスは労働文化も違うので、現地での勤務が長い人たちにも相談しながら、良い形を模索していきたい。
また、土日の間に、現在行われているノッティングヒルカーニバルの予習として、以下の映画を見てみたりもした。

今日は早めに起床し、オンライン研修に取り組む。
テーマはダイバーシティーとインクルージョンについてで、かなり時間を費やしてしまった。
ただ、研修内容は充実しており、個人的に非常に勉強になった。
日本でも良く聞く言葉だが、言葉が宙に浮いている気がしていて、一体何を表しているのか腹落ちしていない感じがずっとあった。
一応一般的な定義を以下に載せてみる。
「ダイバーシティー（多様性）」と「インクルージョン（包摂性）」は、組織や社会が広範囲にわたる個人やグループを公平に受け入れ、尊重することを目指す概念です。これらは特に職場や教育の環境で重視され、多様な背景を持つ人々が共に働き、学び、生活することができるようにするための方針や実践を指します。
ダイバーシティー
ダイバーシティーは、人々の多様性を認識し、価値を置くことを指します。これには、人種、民族、性別、性的指向、年齢、社会的地位、宗教、障害の有無など、さまざまな属性が含まれます。ダイバーシティーを重視する組織は、これらの違いを認め、活用することで、より広い視野を持ち、創造性や革新を促進することができると考えます。
インクルージョン
インクルージョンは、単に多様な人々を組織に含めるだけでなく、それぞれの人々が組織内で完全に参加し、貢献し、属することを感じられる環境を作ることです。インクルージョンの実践には、すべてのメンバーが自身の意見を自由に表現できる文化の育成、差別や偏見のないポリシーの実施、個々のニーズに合わせた支援の提供などが含まれます。
ダイバーシティーとインクルージョンの重要性

日本でこの言葉があまりスッと入ってこなかったのは、環境によるものも大きいのかなと今では思っている。
多様な国籍、人種の人々が暮らし、移民なども積極的に受け入れてきた国と比べると、日本は比較的ダイバーシティに乏しく、そこへの意識も育まれにくい環境なのかなとも感じる。
（あくまでも比較するとという話。最近は徐々に変わってきているだろうし、良し悪しについてここでは触れるつもりはない。）
イギリスにいると、街を歩いているだけでも日々多様性を感じる。それぞれの企業の選考プロセスや雇用条件なども非常に配慮されていることが多い。
以前とある企業に応募した時も、選考プロセスが完全匿名かつ特殊な方法になっていて、人種や国籍、経済状態などのバイアスがかからないようにデザインされていたりした。
イギリスの移民政策などについても少し調べていたので、現地で色々なことに触れる中で理解が深まったし、環境が制度や人の意識を作っていくと改めて感じた。
日本の移民政策については、ヨーロッパの例を挙げて反対の声が挙がっていたりもする。
確かに最初は治安が乱れたり、新しく移民としてやってきた方との相互理解で苦戦することもあるだろうと思う。
イギリスも最初はそうだったのではないか。
ただ、イギリスで暮らしていて感じるのは、多くの人種、国籍が暮らすことが既に当たり前になっているし、それによる問題がめちゃくちゃ多いかと言われると、暮らしている分にはほとんど感じない。
むしろ、そうした多様性に対する配慮や人々の理解に感心することの方が多いくらいだ。
変化には最初痛みやトラブルが伴うだろうが、そうしたものを乗り越えてきたからこその今なのではないかなと個人的には思う。
そんなことを考えながら研修を終えた後は、仕事前に以下のノッティングヒルカーニバルに向かう。
仕事があったので1時間もいられなかったが、朝の時間を活用して、どうしても見てみたかったのだ。
最寄り駅に到着し、ノッティングヒルの中心部に向かう。
ノッティングヒルはカラフルな建物がたくさんあり、歩いているだけでも映える場所だ。
フェスティバルに向かう人たちは太鼓や笛を鳴らしながら、楽しそうに街を闊歩していく。
ケニアやジャマイカなど、さまざまな国の人々が国旗を掲げているのが目に入り、ここでも朝の研修内容を思い出した。
中心部では、衣装を身にまとった人々が、歌い、踊り、ドラムを叩き、熱狂的な雰囲気が生み出されている。
特にドラムのパフォーマンスは素晴らしく、真横で見学していると、地面が鼓動していることがわかった。
3センチ宙に浮いているような浮遊感が味わえるというか、感じたことのないパワーを受け取った。
カーニバルを横目に見つつ、通りを歩いていると、映画「ノッティングヒルの恋人」に出てくるロケ地にたまたま到着。
映画については色々思うことがあったのだが、ロケ地を訪れることができたのは、なんとなく嬉しかった。
そんなこんなで仕事に遅れそうになり、急いでノッティングヒルを後にする。
結局40分もいなかったような気がするが、なんとか電車を乗り継いで、ギリギリで仕事に到着。
朝から学びの多い日だった。

今朝も朝早めに起床し、仕事前に職場近くのカフェでオンライン研修を行う。
その後は夜まで仕事。研修プログラムの資料が一つ完成したので、ひと段落した。
スライドを作ったりもしているのだが、前職での経験やスキルが役立っていると感じる。
仕事が終わった後は、テムズ川沿いを散歩。
この日は、夜から以下のミュージカルを鑑賞しにいく予定があったのだ。

個人的には仕事終わりで足がつらかったのだが、非常に面白い体験だった。
ミュージカルを間近で鑑賞することができるし、途中場所を移動させられたり、パフォーマンスに参加させられることもある。
ただ、あらすじをあまり読んでいなかったことに加え、アメリカ英語がとても速く、知らないスラングもあったので、理解するのが難しかった。
加えて、ミュージカルは3時間近くに及び、途中システムトラブルで大幅に中断。
家に着くのが深夜を超えそうだったため、途中で帰った笑
ミュージカルを最後まで観ることはできなかったのだが、演出含めて面白い体験だったと思う。

この日も終日仕事。
引き続き研修資料作成に加え、来週以降それをどのように実施していくかについて、現場の責任者の方と打ち合わせなどもした。
自分はまだまだ周囲の人と十分にコミュニケーションが取れていないのだが、今後そうした研修などを導入していくためにも、周囲の人との会話、相互理解がもっと必要だなと改めて感じた。
ちなみに、仕事は英語でなんとかやれてはいるのだが、本当に単語や表現のミスが多いし、言いたいことを上手く伝えられないことがある。
知らない語彙や表現などにも、日々出くわしてばかりだ。
早くペラペラになりたいけど、牛歩の歩み。。。
ただし、雨垂れ石を穿つという言葉が好きなので、少しずつ向上していきたいと思う。
「牛歩の歩み」という言葉は、非常にゆっくりとした進行や進化を表現するための表現です。文字通りには、「牛が歩くような遅いスピード」を意味し、物事が遅れる様子や進まない状況を描写する際に使われます。

木曜はオフで、金曜は終日仕事。なので、主に木曜についてのみ書く。
朝早めに起床し、書類の整理やサブスクの整理、解約などいくつかのタスクを処理。その後は少しだけブログを書き、英語の練習などを行う。
昼過ぎからは、ベイカーストリートの近くにあるシャーロックホームズ博物館に向かう。
幼少期から読書が好きで、小学生時代はミステリーを読み漁っていた。特にシャーロックホームズは全巻読んだし、大好きだった。内容はほぼ覚えていないけども。
教科書を立ててその後ろに本を隠し、授業中も読んでいた。隣の席の女の子に帰りの会でチクられ、みんなの前でなぜか謝ったりもした。
振り返ると、学級委員タイプの子に目の敵にされることが多かったように思う。
話が逸れたが、ホームズゆかりの博物館は、小さいながらも感慨深い場所だった。
その後は、その隣にある大きな公園を散歩。大小様々な花や植物があり、様々な種類のバラも美しかった。
途中休憩でカフェなどに立ち寄り、オンライン研修を受講。最後のテーマはかなりヘビーで時間がかかったのだが、なんとか終了させることができた。
その後は、ベイカーストリート周辺や市内中心部を散策してから帰宅。
少し成長を感じられたのが、街でそれ違った人たちの英会話が耳に飛び込んできた際、それがある程度理解できるようになったことだ。
夜は、気になっていた英語表現を確認するため、直近見たミュージカルのサウンドトラックを聴いて英語の意味を確認したり、シャーロックホームズの映画を冒頭だけ見て就寝。
鉄は熱いうちに打て派です。
「鉄は熱いうちに打て」ということわざは、「機会を逃さず、タイミングが良いときにすぐ行動に移すべきだ」という意味です。この表現は、鍛冶屋が鉄を形作る工程から来ています。鉄が熱いうちには柔軟で加工しやすいため、この時に形を整えるのが最も効果的です。比喩的には、機会が最も有利な状態にあるときに、決断や行動をすることの重要性を強調しています。

イギリスが好き
来て暮らしてみて思ったが、イギリスが好きだ。特にロンドン。
日本ももちろん好きなのだが、多様性に満ち溢れて、様々な文化芸術や歴史があるロンドンもとても面白い。
人々が絶妙に他人に対して無関心なような気がするのも、個人的に居心地が良い理由だろうと思う。
気候も良いし、ロンドン好きだなぁと噛み締めた瞬間が1週間に3回あった。
来週の目標
現地の人との繋がりを作る
ネイティブの人と話す機会を仕事以外でも作りたい。
これまでの経験や体験を棚卸し
これまでの仕事や旅の経験などを棚卸して、適宜記事にしていこうかなと思っている。
自分にできる事は何なのかを改めて考えたり、頭の中の整理をしたい。
記憶を記事として外にアウトプットしておくことで、脳のメモリがリフレッシュされるような気がするからだ。
