2024/07/14「カレーライス」"Curry Rice"

僕が学校から帰宅すると、お母さんがすでに台所に立って、何かを作っている。こちらを見ると「おかえり。手を洗っておいで」とにっこりして言った。ソファに座っていたお父さんも「おかえり」と読みかけの新聞から目を上げて言い、「今日の晩御飯は楽しみだぞ」と子供みたいな笑顔を浮かべて言った。

台所から、僕の大好物の匂いが漂ってくる。「もしかしてカレーライス！？」と僕は目を輝かせると、母親は微笑み「そうよ。あなたの大好きなカレーライスよ」と、お母さんもルンルンと上機嫌な様子だ。

夕食の時間になると、家族三人がダイニングテーブルに集まる。母親が大きな皿を持ってきて、それをテーブルの中央に置く。そこには、熱々のカレーライスがこんもりと盛られていた。

待ってましたと言わんばかりに、僕は銀のスプーンを手に、カレーライスを夢中になって食べ始める。一口ごとに「美味しい！」を連発し、母親は満足そうに微笑む。「うん、今日も美味しいね」と父親もカレーを堪能している。食卓には、温かい雰囲気が漂っていた。

その夜、僕は寝る前に母親のところに行った。「今日のカレーライス、本当に美味しかったよ。ありがとう」お母さんは優しく頭を撫でてくれて、「いつでもあなたのために作るわ」と囁いた。

僕はお母さんに抱きついて、「いつか、僕がお母さんのためにカレーライス、作ってあげるね」と言い、母の身体の優しい温もりを感じていた。

When I got home from school, my mom was already in the kitchen, cooking something. When she saw me, she smiled and said, "Welcome home. Go wash your hands." My dad, who was sitting on the sofa, looked up from his half-read newspaper and said, "Welcome home," with a childlike grin, adding, "I'm looking forward to dinner tonight."

The smell of my favorite dish wafted from the kitchen. "Could it be curry rice?!" I exclaimed, my eyes lighting up. My mom smiled and said, "Yes, it's your favorite curry rice." She seemed to be in a cheerful mood as well.

At dinner time, the three of us gathered around the dining table. My mom brought a large plate and placed it in the center of the table. It was piled high with steaming hot curry rice.

Without wasting any time, I grabbed a silver spoon and began eating the curry rice with enthusiasm. With every bite, I exclaimed, "Delicious!" over and over again, and my mom smiled contentedly. "Yes, it's delicious today too," my dad said, enjoying the curry. A warm atmosphere filled the dining table.

That night, before going to bed, I went to my mom. "Today's curry rice was really delicious. Thank you," I said. She gently patted my head and whispered, "I'll always make it for you."

I hugged my mom and said, "Someday, I'll make curry rice for you," feeling the gentle warmth of her body.
