二月四日 立春 節分祭の名残を見て February in Kyoto: on the 1st day of Spring

二月の京都
昨夜は雨降りでしたが、豆まきしましたか？
一夜明け、今日は暖かな立春。良い天気の中、氏神さんへお参りに行くと、「節分祭」と書いた提灯や旗がまだ残っていました。雨の中、節分祭りが行われたのでしょう。
かつてはどこの家からも「福は内～！鬼は外～！」という声とともに邪気を払う豆まきの音が聞こえたものですが、今はもう、一軒もありません。
しなくなったのは豆まきだけではないなぁ。。。
町内のお地蔵さんへ今の年齢の数の豆を納め、来年の年齢の数の豆を食べて一年の無病息災を拝んでいました。これももう今はしていないです。
鰯は焼いて食べました。
太巻きを恵方を向いて食べることは、全国に広がりましたね。

Did you do Mamemaki on the raining Setsubun night?
On the next warm day, it marks the beginning of spring, I visited the local shrine and found that lanterns and flags inscribed with "Setsubun Festival" were still hanging. Despite the rain, it seems Setsubun Festival took place.
In the past, one could hear the sound of bean-scattering accompanied by the traditional chant "Fuku wa uchi, Oni wa soto" (Fortune in, Demons out) echoing from every household, purging evil spirits. But now, not a single house does it anymore.
It's not just bean-scattering that has ceased; even the tradition of offering beans to the local Jizo statues equal to one's current age and eating beans equal to one's age for the year ahead to pray for good health and well-being for the year has also faded away.
We did enjoy grilled sardines though.
Eating thick sushi rolls while facing a lucky direction has become a nationwide trend.
