今回は日本の庭についてです。これもほかのトピックとつなげることができます。例えば、お寺では禅と枯山水の関係、お城では回遊式庭園の目的（お殿様がお庭を廻りながら政治を語る）などです。
静岡（浜北）には龍潭寺という井伊家の菩提寺があり、ここでは枯山水と築山式（写真）のお庭を見ることができます。是非一度、足を運んでみてください。

Japanese gardens 日本の庭園

I would like to talk about Japanese gardens. Japanese gardens have been existed from ancient times and their style and purpose vary in many ways.
日本の庭園について話したいと思います。日本の庭園は古代からあったといわれており、そのスタイル、目的は様々です。

There are three typical styles for Japanese gardens. Tsukiyama style, Karesansui and Syakkei. People heap up the soil in the garden and it represents nature such as mountain in Tsukiyama style. In Karesansui style or dry landscape, people express (represent) the river flow or island in the sea by using sand and gravel. It matches to Zen and many temples have this Karesansui style. Finally for the Syakkei style, people use the mountain and rivers that already existed and create gardens.
代表して三つのスタイルがあるといわれています。築山式と枯山水、借景です。築山式は土地に土をもったり、池を掘ったりして、山や海などの世界観を庭に反映するものです。枯山水とは水を使わずに、砂や砂利、石をつかって大河の流れや海を表現しています。これは禅の思想と結びつき、禅寺を中心に発展していきます。最後に借景ですが、これは自然に存在する山や川などの景色を庭に利用するものです。

One of purposes to create the garden is to reproduce the pure land (in Buddhism ideology). In medieval times, there are lots of wars in Japan and some leaders wish for peace and made gardens. Another purpose is to stroll; many leaders in Edo period made gardens for this purpose and they talked politics while strolling the garden. You can see this type with a castle and a famous one is Korakuen garden. Please stroll through Japanese gardens and feel the history as well as the nature.
庭を作る目的も様々で、一つは浄土思想を反映したものです。戦争の多かった中世では、平和を願って庭に浄土を再現したのです。もう一つは回遊式庭園で、これは庭を散策しながら政治などの話をする目的で作られました。城と合わせて作られる場合が多いです。有名なものとして後楽園があります。
