Dear President of the United States
Congratulations on your inauguration as the 47th President of the United States. I am a citizen of Japan, and I sincerely hope that, as the great leader of the United States, you will dedicate yourself to promoting global peace and prosperity.
As we pass the first quarter of the 21st century, humanity is enjoying an unprecedented era of prosperity. At the same time, we are facing crises of a scale never experienced before. Prosperity and crisis, peace and war, abundance and hunger, diversity and intolerance, love and hatred—these contradictions are covering the world with greater intensity and depth than ever before.
Humanity is now grappling with contradictions so vast that they threaten to exceed the capacity of this planet. Yet, we continue to destroy nature, deplete resources, and engage in mass production, mass consumption, and mass disposal, all in pursuit of more.
The advancement of science and technology has brought humanity dreams of infinite growth and a more convenient and prosperous life. At the same time, it has given rise to horrifying weapons of mass destruction, such as nuclear arms and AI-based weaponry, that could potentially lead to our extinction.
Looking back on history, the United States has always been a pioneer of freedom and democracy, pursuing the ideals of humanity. President Lincoln, under the principle of “all men are created equal” as stated in the Declaration of Independence, achieved the emancipation of slaves. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. advocated for human rights and nonviolence, leading the civil rights movement to success. Their ideals continue to inspire not only the United States but also people around the world.
Politics is not about bargaining or transactions; it can only be sustained through trust and fairness. If world leaders abandon these principles and cease to speak of the ideals of peace and coexistence, the threat of humanity’s extinction will become a terrifying reality.
I strongly urge you to join hands with people from all nations and build a world where countries with differing values can coexist. The future of our children depends on it. The world is watching you with sincere hope and expectation for your leadership.
