My experiences in NZ #23

Hello there.
I’d love to continue from where I ended last time.

In my last blog, I wrote that I decided to continue staying with my host family after the language school ended.
My family in Japan and I were relieved to get a place to stay.

At my language school, the closing ceremonies were held every Friday.
In the ceremony, the students finished learning there; it had become customary to make speeches.

It was a national holiday on Friday of my last week because of Good Friday, so my closing ceremony was held on Thursday, the day before.
That day was coincidentally my birthday!
On the morning of the day, I told my friend from Tahiti.

At the end of my speech, he said, “Happy birthday!” everyone started singing, “Happy birthday to you.”
However, many students didn’t know my name, so they sang, “Happy birthday, dear hmmm, happy birthday to you.”
It was unique but made me cry.
As I returned to my homestay, my host mother baked a birthday cake for me.
It was a memorable birthday.

That’s all for today, and to be next time.
See you around.
