鳥島近海で何が起きているのかを知りたい（続）：2024年9月25日（水）
約1年前の2023年10月10日（火）の私のブログで「鳥島近海で何が起きているのかを知りたい」という以下の原稿を掲載した。
「昨日（2023年10月）9日午前6時40分に気象庁は，伊豆諸島と小笠原諸島に津波注意報を発表した。実は，その津波注意法が発表される前に，既に八丈島に津波が到達していたという。
この津波の原因は，午前5時25分頃に鳥島（東京より南東600km）近海で起きた地震らしきものと言われているが，観測地点のデータが乏しく，地震が起きていたかどうかも不明であるという。」
ただし，上記の津波が起きる4日前の2023年10月5日（木）に，鳥島より南を震央とするマグニチュード6.5の地震が起きていた。海底火山の火山性の活動によって，上記の津波が起きていたのだろうか。真実はわからない。
それから，約1年が過ぎたことになるが，昨日の2024年9月24日（火）午前8時14分に鳥島近海で地震が発生し，午前8時20分に伊豆諸島と小笠原諸島に津波注意報が発表された。鳥島よりも北に位置する伊豆諸島の無人島の須美寿島（Smith Rocks，気象庁は9月19日に須美寿島の火山活動が活発化している可能性があるとして，周辺海域に噴火警報を発表していた）付近が震央（鳥島近海(八丈島の南180km付近)，深さ約19km，マグニチュード5.8）だという。
海底火山活動と地震や津波の関係は，現時点では確定されていないというが，仮に海底火山活動によるものであれば，今後，本州にも影響が及ぶ可能性があるという（東北大学の今村文彦教授による）。

About a year ago, on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, I posted the following article on my blog titled, “I Want to Know What is Happening Near Torishima.”
“Yesterday, at 6:40 a.m. on October 9, 2023, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami advisory for the Izu and Ogasawara Islands. In fact, a tsunami had already reached Hachijojima before the advisory was even issued.
The cause of this tsunami is said to be something like an earthquake that occurred near Torishima (600 km southeast of Tokyo) around 5:25 a.m., but due to a lack of data at observation points, it is unclear whether an earthquake actually occurred.”
However, four days before the above-mentioned tsunami, on Thursday, October 5, 2023, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 occurred with its epicenter south of Torishima. Could this tsunami have been caused by volcanic activity from an underwater volcano? The truth remains unknown.
It has been about a year since then, but yesterday, at 8:14 a.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, an earthquake occurred near Torishima, and at 8:20 a.m., a tsunami advisory was issued for the Izu and Ogasawara Islands. The epicenter was near the uninhabited island of Sumisujima (Smith Rocks), located north of Torishima in the Izu Islands (around 180 km south of Hachijojima, depth about 19 km, magnitude 5.8). The Japan Meteorological Agency had issued an eruption warning for this area on September 19 due to increased volcanic activity around Sumisujima.
While the relationship between underwater volcanic activity, earthquakes, and tsunamis has not yet been confirmed, if it is caused by underwater volcanic activity, it could potentially affect Honshu in the future, according to Professor Fumihiko Imamura of Tohoku University.
