モモスズメ　極小輪にして多花咲の可憐な一重猪口咲ツバキ

桃雀 （モモスズメ）


富山県八尾市で１９６５年に作出された椿とされ
花径が４ｃｍ程の極小輪〜小輪の小さく可憐な花
をつけるユキツバキ系の品種のひとつとなる。


花色は極淡桃色と、一見して白ツバキにも見える
ものだが、よくよく観察してみると微かだが桃色
を感じるものである。これの開花時期は１〜４月
となっているが花期の終わり頃のものでは桃色を
更に感じる様になる。


咲き方は、一重咲の猪口咲で、中央部には雄蘂が
筒状に形成されている。


花付きがとても良いもので、次々と花を咲かせる
多花タイプ。小さく可愛らしい花が沢山咲いてる
その情景から桃雀（モモスズメ）の名前が付く。


ツバキの花は、撮影している時にそれに惚れる時
がしばしばあるのだが、このモモスズメの花にも
私は惚れ込んでしまった逸品なのである。

Momosuzume (桃雀)


Momosuzume is a variety of Camellia belonging to the Yuki-tsubaki group, developed in 1965 in Yatsuo, Toyama Prefecture. It produces delicate, charming flowers that are extremely small to small in size, with a diameter of about 4 cm.


The flower color is an extremely pale pink, appearing almost white at first glance. However, upon closer observation, a faint pink hue can be noticed. The blooming period lasts from January to April, and toward the end of the season, the pink color becomes more pronounced.


The flowers bloom in a choko-zaki (goblet-shaped) single form, with stamens forming a tubular structure at the center.


This camellia is highly floriferous, continuously producing numerous blossoms. The sight of many small and adorable flowers in full bloom is what inspired its name, “Momosuzume” (Peach Sparrow).


There are times when I fall in love with a camellia while photographing it, and Momosuzume is one of those exceptional varieties that have truly captured my heart.
